    1. [[TXANDERS]] Re: [[TXANDERS]] Re: Adams - Re: Confederate Indigent Families Lists, Anderso...
    2. The best thing is to write the Texas State Archives, Austin, TX and ask what is in his file, if he went to war from TX. If you are close enough to Austin for a day trip, it would be worth it. If he or his wife lived untill TX started the pension plan, you would get valuable info about the family. Try the internet to find out if they have a file on him. If you live closer to Houston, they have the confederate records on micro film at Clayton Research Library. Dallas Public Library probaly does too. In 1986 when I started researching, a several friends and I would get together every month or so, leave Galveston County at 0500 hours, stop in Brenham at Mcdonalds for bath room and coffee break, then be in Austin by the time that the Archives opened (not open on Sat.). We called them "killer trips" because we left when the library closed at 5 PM, stopped in Brenham at a steak house, had dinner and were home by ten. To tired to look at our finds, but happy to have made the trip. Happy researching.

    2. Scott Fitzgerald
    3. Hi All, ETGS has recently updated our on-line index to our quarterly, East Texas Family Records. It covers Volumes 1 through 13. Articles in the ETFR primarily cover Anderson, Gregg, Henderson, Panola, Rusk and Smith counties. To reach the site go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txetgs/etfrindex.html When someone e-mails me about the availability of a certain issue, this is what I send them. I hope that it answers any questions you may have, but if not let me know. East Texas Family Records The issues that are available are for sale for $5.00 each (postage paid). They can be ordered from East Texas Genealogical Society, PO Box 6967, Tyler, TX 75711-6967. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks or so for delivery. Our volunteers do this as soon as they can, but it has to go through several volunteers (handling mail, handling money & order filling people) before final mail-out. We also have some used copies available on the out-of-print issues which can be purchased for $5.00 (also postage paid). ETGS is in the process of putting up most of the articles that are in the out-of-print issues on the web. We do not have any time table for this, but we are working on it. You can check for the out of print articles at the following link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txetgs/etfrindex.html This link also has a full-name index for the first 13 volumes and an index to the articles. Also the Tyler Library, the county libraries for Anderson, Gregg, Henderson, Panola & Rusk and most major libraries have a complete set of the quarterlies. If you desire a look-up of the information contained in the quarterly, the Tyler Library History Desk will do it on a limited basis. Their e-mail address is [email protected] . I have tried to track her down as a Cecil, but would like to know who the Emerson is and/or was she an Emerson. She died in 1895 in Mena where I think she was originally from. My grandfather came back to Palestine in 1904-5 and married my grandmother Dorothy Anderson.

    1. [[TXANDERS]] Any John H. REGAN descendants/marker dedication
    2. Vince Leibowitz
    3. Greetings, lists: At a meeting of the Van Zandt County Historical Commission today, the dedication of a Texas State Historical Marker for John H. Reagan was announced as being set for May 18, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the district courtroom of the Van Zandt County Courthouse in Canton. Several folks wondered if the Commission had knowledge of any of this man's descendants, but none were known. I am sending this to the list in hopes that, if someone is a descendant, they will contact me. John H. Reagan was a member of the Texas militia and participated in the Cherokee War in Van Zandt County and was present when Chief Bowles (Cherokee) was killed. He was district judge in Van Zandt County from 1853 to 1857, served as a delegate to the Confederate Provisional Congress in 1861, and was Postmaster General of the Confederate States of America. IN addition, he was part of the constitutional convention of 1876, was elected to the U.S. Congress in 1875, and was a U.S. Senator from 1887 until 1891. IN 1891, he began serving as chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission, which had been recently created by the Texas Legislature. He retired to Palestine in Anderson County and was buried there. If you are a descendant or know of a descendant, please call me at (903) 567-4000 or email. Vince Leibowitz
