I'm researching my GG grandfather's family..he's nine siblings...5 sister's and 4 brother's ..Louisa is the only sister, and the only family member I've not been able to trace...In 1850's and 60's they lived in Palestine,Anderson Co,TX, and by 1860 five of the children were not living at home, That being John Thomas, Joseph M., Sarah C, Rebecca A, and Louisa.......Sarah C married Henry Hendrix..I'm thinking that Louisa may have married a brother of Henry..if any? If I had a birth date for your Louisa...I proably could rule on this...the time period and the location, and The cemetery fit..I hope to hear fr you soon.

    3. Thanks, Gladys. I joined the TXANDERS site recently. Don't you wish they would put those people under the jail? I have MailWasher on my computer, and I receive very little spam mail. If you are interested in it, it is free. Awhile back I had to cancel hotmail because everything I got on it was spam. I really didn't need it anyway, but Joan thought I did. We had a great trip to Arkansas, but I was sick the last two days. My doctor had changed my arthritis medicine to Bextra, and I had some very severe allergic reactions to it. Didn't connect my symptoms to it for about 5 days, and by that time was about to have a stroke. My blood pressure was so high when I went to the doctor, he nearly had a fit. I am feeling better now, but still dizzy. Jean

    1. [[TXANDERS]] Genealogy Scam Artist Arrested!
    2. Maybe this will stop some of the Genealogy SPAM that we have all received. Gladys SPECIAL EDITION: Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter I have written a number of times about a genealogy-related scam that operates under a variety of names, including GenSeekers.com, GenealogyGiants.com and more. In the July 7 edition of the newsletter, I identified the owner/operator of this "business" as 21-year-old Elias Abodeely of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Since then, I have had conversations with several people in Iowa about this "business." I can now report that earlier today the Cedar Rapids police department arrested Elias Abodeely for his activities with GenSeekers.com and the other Web sites he operates. KWWL television in Iowa is now reporting that Cedar Rapids Police have made an arrest after a two year Internet crime investigation. The crimes involved genealogy websites. Today police arrested Elias Abodeely II of Cedar Rapids.. He faces four charges: 1st degree theft, identity theft, money laundering, and ongoing criminal conduct. Police say they expect to file charges against more suspects. Details are still developing. Keep an eye on the newsletter Discussion Board at http://www.eogn.com for updates. I will also be writing about this in the next newsletter. You can read my earlier article at http://www.eogn.com/archives/news0327.htm. - Dick Eastman

Would like to find her parents names, etc. Eddie was several years older than James and I suspect that she may have been married before. He was the son of Eliza Catherine Ford and David Fortenberry Douthit. Thanks, Jean

I assume you can write the courthouse for a copy of the actual record or license, but I have not done that for any of mine. Also, I have found a few names misspelled, probably in transcribing from the orig. handwriting, so the difference in the spelling might be an error. Hope this helps you some. EARLY MIGRATION ROUTES TO BE FOCUS OF GENEALOGY MEETING The East Texas Genealogical Society and the Anderson County Genealogical Society will present a special program Saturday, August 2, at 1:30 pm, in Palestine at the Public Library, 1101 Cedar Street. The meeting is free and anyone interested in family research is invited to attend. Pre-registration is not required. The Appalachian Mountains and hostile Indians were the primary barriers that blocked migration and influenced the establishment of early wagon roads. By locating these migration routes and reversing the paths, researchers can determine the most likely original location of their ancestors. Guest speaker, Don Raney, will use maps to locate primary overland migration routes used by pioneers from colonial settlements in New England, Virginia and South Carolina between 1700 and 1815. 1. [[TXANDERS]] Re: [[TXANDERS]] Murdock Cafe in Palestine
    2. Large Libraries sometimes have old Texas Gazetteers that you can look at and copy. The Texas Room (I think that is correct) at the downtown Houston Public Library is where I learned to love the Gazetteers. I haven't been there in several years because the parking is very expensive and almost none existent. I believe that they had five1885 and 1915, but I might be wrong. They are fun books for Texas researchers of that period. Each community is listed and described, giving the names of the postmaster and other official. I was born 1934 in Butler, Freestone County, TX. There were close to 300 people in Butler in 1885. It was great fun to go through the various gazetteers after Butler folk voted that they did not want the rail road to go through Butler. The folks in Oakwood who had less than 75 people in 1875 felt differently. by 19l5 Butler had 50 persons or families and Oakwood had over 200. They list business, the owners & employee's and other workers and so many interesting things. I am falling asleep at the computer' and hope I havehelped in some way. Happy hunting,

    3. Thank you Michael! I will check the other counties. Not being familiar with the area, didn't know the "good" possibilities. Yes, I do think she was the Mosley daughter shown in the 1850 census, but I am having a heck of a time proving it! I am going on the "assumption" that James Peters wife was his sister and Margaret his mother. I found a Margaret Hardin as head of household in the 1840 Bedford County, TN census along with a daughter of the correct age to have been Medlina (Malinda?). I am thinking this could be she. Have been perusing a "lot of Hardin/en/ing material trying to "find a husband" for Margaret, but that hasn't developed as of yet! I know that older (even not so old i.e. 1935) death records are at a premium in Texas! But we keep hoping! Thanks again! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael J. 2. Michael J. Vaughn
    3. Patsy: Have you checked for a marriage license in Henderson County, and the other surrounding counties. In looking at the 1850 census, Samuel D. Harden was living with the James Peters family, suppose his sister and her husband as there was also a Margaret Harden, age 59, living there as well. That family, based on those around it, were in the extreme NW end of the county, and it was much easier to get to Athens than to Palestine. Also a few families before the Peters family was a John Mosley with daughter Catharine, age 16, born TN. Though the age is off a bit, still she had a sister named Frances, so that might be a lead, since Catherine Harden had a daughter named Frances. It is very unlikely, almost like Ivory Soap, i.e., 99 & 44/100ths% certain, that you will find a Death Record for her in the courthouse in Palestine or anywhere else for that matter from that time period. Good luck, but I would definitely check Henderson County, Navarro County and Freestone County, since they all converged just about where the family was living in 1850.
