    3.  Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that if any of you are interested, the following Rootsweb mailing lists are now officially up for adoption. As I really don't have the time that needs to be put into them, I am hoping a more devoted list mom or dad, will step forward. :) This is a "first come, first served" adoption, and if you request to adopt, and don't hear back from me immediately, please be patient.                                                                      Take care,                                                                         Diana                                                                       List mom AL-FREEDMEN AL-ORPHANS ALDALLAS AMERICAN-INDIAN-MISSIONS ANCHORS ANDERSONVILLE ANKER BOONE-DANIEL-KY CASHATT CONNACHER DAMATO DanvilleCrossing DanvilleQueries DAVIS-VA DOLLAR ETN-OZ FL-AfricaAmer FL-FREEDMEN FL-PAHOKEE FLCOLLIE FLHARDEE FLHERNAN FLMARTIN FLOSCEOL FLPALMBE FLUNION FRYER GA-ELBERT-CO GAWALTON HONEYMAN IA-FREEDMEN IABUTLER IACLARKE IACLAY IAFRANKL IAMONROE IATAYLOR IN-FREEDMEN IN-LAWRENCE-MTZionCemetery INBLACKF Justice-Marshall KS-FREEDMEN KSJEWELL KY-ADOPTIONS KY-AUBHISTSOC KY-FEUDS KY-FOLKLORE-GHOST-STORIES KY-FREEDMEN KY-INTERTRIBAL KY-LITTLE-SANDY KY-REGULATORS KY-SLAVES KY-STURGEON KYADAIR KYCARTER KYEDMONS KYLARUE KYLINCOL KYMORGAN-HISTORY LA-FREEDMEN LAACADIA LAASSUMP LAWEBSTE LONGLEY MARTINDALE MO-FREEDMEN MOWORTH MS-FREEDMEN MSAFRICANAMER MSCLAY MSKEMPER MSMONTGO MSRANKIN MSWINSTON NC-FREEDMEN NCCOLUMB NCSCOTS NJ-AFAM NJ-FREEDMEN NJ-ORPHANS NYFULTON OBERLIN OBERMAN OBRE OH-FREEDMEN OH-SLAVES OKCCGS ORDER-OF-ELKS ORDER-OF-THE-EASTERN-STAR PA-BUCKS-CEMETERIES PA-DEL-CEMETERIES PA-DEL-CHESTER PA-FOLKLORE PA-FREEDMEN PA-MEMORIES PA-MONTGOMERY-CEMETERIES PA-OLD-RAYSTOWN PA-PHILA-CEMETERIES PA-RIDLEY PA-ROLLCALL PA-SUSQUEHANNA PA-SW-OBITS PADATA PAMCKEESPORT ROBENHORST ROBIE ROBSON SC-DUTCHFORK SC-FREEDMEN SC-VETERANS SOOTER SOUTHERN-CHAT SOUTHERN-PLANTATIONS Southern-Trails SPARKES STAGGS STURGILL-EAST-KY TN-BLOUNT-OBITUARIES TN-FREEDMEN TUTT TX-BAPTIST TX-CATHOLIC TX-COTTON TX-EARLY-LEADERS TX-FREEDMEN TX-HISTORY TX-LUTHERAN TX-MEMORIES TX-MERCERCOL TX-METHODIST TX-OILGEN TX-REVOLUTION TX-SHARECROP TX-VETERANS TX-WOOD-CEM TX-WOODMEN TXBOSQUE TXCALDWE TXCALLAH TXCHAMBE TXCOCHRA TXCRANE TXCULBER TXDUVAL TXHARTLE TXHEMPHI TXHUNT-ARCHI VES TXHUNT -OBITS TXKENDAL TXKENEDY TXKENT TXKIMBLE TXMOORE VA-AfricanAmer VA-CHURCH-HILL VA-FREEDMEN VA-ROLLCALL VAAMELIA VACHARLE VACNORFO VADINWID VAGREENE VAISLEOF VALDRES VANANSEM VANOTTOW VANVOORHEES VAPOWHAT VAPRINCEG; WV-FREEDMEN WV-MetroValley WVPRESTO WVSUMMER

    3. James M Hinson b.1853 in Stanley Co. NC married Elizabeth J. Hudson in 1871 in NC. Three daughters: Eva Samantha born 1872, Minnie Viletti born 1875, and Adell born 1883. The family moved to Leon Co. Texas by 1890. Eva S. married to Duncan H. Campbell in 1893. Minnie V. married to Bud Ainsworth in 1896, and Adell married to John H. Brown in 1900. Jim Hinson and wife Betty are listed on the 1900 census for Leon Co. Daughter Dell and husband John Brown live next door, as does John Browns brother and his wife Mamie. Minnie and Bud Ainsworth were in Limestone Co. with one daughter, Eva Inez. Eva Campbell lived in Centerville (Leon Co.) with Duncan Campbells mother, ( Virginia Patrick Parker). They had one son at the time named Robert Leo Campbell. They were all share croppers. I have located Eva's descendents ( I am one), and Minnie's descendents. I am desperately looking for Dell's descendents. I know the Browns moved to Houston in the 1940s and 50s, because I once visited them when I was a young girl. One of my cousins believes that atleast part of the family may still live in the area of Limestone or Grosebeck? Any help appreciated in finding traces of my family. 1. Annual Roll Call
    2. Vince Leibowitz
    3. Dear List Members: Every year around this time, I post a call for an annual "roll call." Since so many families get new computers around the holidays and, because the period between December 15 and January 1 usually witnesses the largest growth of lists, this seems the perfect time to do it. So, between now and January 1, please feel free to post your "roll call" post. What is a roll call post? A roll call post is one in which you list the surnames you are researching and brief information about the lines you are seeking information on as they relate to the geographic nature of the list. A sample roll call message should look like this: "Researching the family of John DOE, b. 1837 Sagamon County, Ill, d. December 12, 1900, Rains County, TX. m. Susan JONES, December 1, 1860, Titus County, TX. Allied surnames include JOHNSON, SMITH, JONES, PETERS, ANDREWS." You may also wish to include any other pertinent information such as birtdates, places of burial, siblings, children, other places lived, etc. Essentially, include anything that may be helpful to other researchers to determine if they are related to your line. Also, if you are looking for any specific information like the burial location of someone, you may wish to include that. When posting the message, PLEASE phrase the subject as follows: "ROLL CALL: Researching DOE, JONES & SMITH" or something along those lines. Finally, please do not respond to this message! To post your roll call, please send the message to the list. The address for the list is "listname-l@rootsweb.com" where "listname" is the name of the list. Happy Holidays, Vince Leibowitz List Administrator

Hopefully someone will see something that looks familiar in this. Later, Larry Hunt.

    2. Karen K
    3. James M. Hinson came from NC abt. 1888 and lived in Leon Co. Texas as a sharecropper. His youngest daughter and her husband lived with them on the 1900 census. They were John and Adella Brwon. John's brother Henry and his wife, Mamie also lived with them. James Himson died in 1902 and is burried in New Salem Cemetery in Leon Co. His wife Elizabeth Hinson moved to Grosebeck, in Limestone Co. to live with another daughter, Minnie Hinson Ainsworth. She and her husband, Bud were also sharecroppers. I would love to find the descendents of the Browns and Ainsworths. James Hinson's other daughter was Eva Samantha Hinson Campbell, my g grandmother. I know her descendents and some of Minnie Ainsworths, but have not been able to find any of Adella Browns. Although, I do have an old photo, circa 1920s of Adella and one of her daughters named Helen, who lived in Houston. Karen Moore Kerr __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! 1. [TX-SHARECROP] Semi-Annual Roll Call
    2. Vince Leibowitz
    3. Greetings, List: It is time once again for our twice-a-year Roll Call. As most of you know who have been on the list a while, Roll Calls are conducted once between Christmas and the new year and once after Memorial Day. To participate in the roll call, send a message to the list which meets the following guidelines: 1.) Includes in the subject line the words ROLL CALL and the surname such as: "Roll Call: DOE" 2.) Include in the message a brief synopsis of the information you have on the family as well as any additional information you are seeking. 3.) Include your EMAIL ADDRESS; replies to roll call postings should be done off-list. 4.) Include the URL of your genealogy webpage, if you have one. Please keep your messages short, but include any pertinent information that would help another reader determine whether or not they have information which would pertain to your line. Also, remember that these messages are ARCHIVED through rootsweb, so even if you don't find the information you are looking for now, someone doing a search may find your message later and be able to assist you. If you have questions, please feel free to ask. The roll call will run from May 26 until June 2, 2003 at midnight, EST. Please don't post roll call messages after that time. Also, please remember that we do a roll call twice a year and that only the listmanager can call a roll call. This is because, as new members join the group, if each one posted a roll call, that would take up a great deal of the lists' time. Thanks, Vince Leibowitz

    2. Granmommie
    3. I am researching the J.A. Frazier family of Navarro County TX They were sharecroppers in the Richland area and maybe other parts of the country. Brothers Issac and John A. Frazier came to Navarro in the late 1880's from Catahoula Parish LA. John A. married Cora Young in Navarro County in the early 1890's. There may have been other Frazier family members already living in the area. They had a sister Mary Frazier Casey living in McLennan County as well. I am also researching the Henry Lee Crain- Emma Higginbotham families of Navarro County and surrounding area. I am not sure if they were sharecroppers or not but did some farming in the area as well. Thank you very much for any info. Contact: Pat Cantrell of Jewett Cantrell marpactx@yahoo.com

On the 1900 census they were share croppers near Guys store and Centerville. Adella and John Brown lived with her parents, James and Elizabeth Hinson. They later had several children(including one named Mary Helen) and moved to the Houston area. James M. Hinson died in 1902 and is burried in the New Salem cemetery near Centerville. 1. [TX-SHARECROP] Annual End-Year Roll Call
    2. Vince Leibowitz
    3. Greetings, List Members: As you know, for the past several years, roll calls have been initiated the list during June and December. Our December roll call is usually the largest because so many people with new computers or new Internet software make their way on to the lists. As part of the roll-call each member is invited (not required) to post a message with a brief synopsis of the ancestors they are researching, including relevant dates, places, etc. to the list. An example would be as follows: Seeking information on the John Jay DOE family. John Jay DOE, born 12/12/1810, Richmond, VA, died 01/01/1901, Austin, Texas Married ( on 04/04/1844 in Long Island, NY) Elizabeth Sue SMITH, born 01/09/1817, Richmond, VA, death date & place unknown (or something along those lines.) Please remember to CHANGE THE SUBJECT of the message when you reply. The subject should read something like: John & Myra Winston DOE Family. (Accurate subjects also help when the messages are archived by rootsweb.com) The roll call will end at midnight on January 1, 2003. All list members are asked to respond to the roll call (should they desire) prior to that time. Roll Calls are conducted twice a year and only on the instruction of the list administrator. This is so the list won't get flooded for roll call requests every time someone new joins the list. Best Wishes & Happy Holidays, Vince Leibowitz List Moderator

    1. Belcher
    2. Mary Berdollt
    3. Dear List: Following is a report from my family history file. It includes about everything I know about my paternal grandfather, McEwen or Mack Belcher. Anyone with any information, or suggestions regarding sources, please email me or post on the list. 1. McEwen2 Belcher (?1) was born 11 Mar 1858 in Tyler, Texas, (Smith County) and died 21 Apr 1909 in Oklahoma . He married Ethel Candace Hoyle 16 Jul 1891, daughter of William Hoyle and Margaret Southerland. She was born 12 Sep 1875 in Osark, Arkansas, and died 11 Mar1942 in Frisco, Oklahoma .Burial: Frisco Cemetery, Oklahoma Family history reported that he was born April 21, 1858 and died in 1909. The tomb stone shows b. 3-11-1858 and d. 4-21-1909. However, he is listed on the 1910 census as age 59, which would make his birthdate 1851, and, if the census is correct, not dead in 1909. Graces' birth certificate shows him to be age 33 in 1893 when she was born which would make him born about 1860. I used dates on tomb stone. If it was installed in the year of his death, year should be right. However, it could have been added later. Marriage Notes for McEwen Belcher and Ethel Hoyle: In the marriages index, Mack Belcher married Ethel C. Hoyl/Hoil on 16 July 1891 "at the residence of W.F. Hoyl". The marriage was performed by C. Mc. Birchfield, MG {Minister of the Gospel}. 1910 Pontotoc County Census (Stonewall Township) shows his name as Mack, occupation as Farmer and his father born in Georgia and his mother in Alabama. Lists children as Grace, Blanche L, Margaret E, Alice C, Roy C. This census also shows them living two houses away from William and Margaret Hoyl (parents of Ethel Candace Hoyle). Found a possible reference to Mack in the Oklahoma Territory Census Index for 1890 (done June, 1890): Belcher, Mack; born TX: Cleveland Co: Page 565. McEwen and Ethel were in Norman (Cleveland County) when Grace Mae was born in 1893. The following land parcels were located in Cleveland County: From the Land Patents index: Belcher, Mack Book 1, page 256, patent 160 Belcher, Mrs. Sallie 1, 305, 153 (have no idea who she is) Hoyl, William F. 2, 500, 2137 (Father of Ethel) Hoyle, Nicholas 2, 142, 452 (Unknown but probably related) 1891 Tax Rolls Hoyl, J.C. Case T10N R1W (Brother of Ethel) Hoyl, W.F. Case T10N R2W (Father of Ethel) Children of McEwen Belcher and Ethel Hoyle are: + 2 i. Grace Mae3 Belcher, born 24 May 1893 in Norman, Oklahoma (Cleveland County); died 2 May 1975 in Oklahoma. + 3 ii. Blanche Lois Belcher, born 25 Sep 1895 in Gainsville, Texas (Cooke County); died 6 Sep 1966 in Fairfield, California. 4 iii. Margaret Ellen Belcher, born 31 Jan 1900 in Texas or Oklahoma; died 6Nov 1914. 5 iv. Clara Alice Belcher, born 14 Oct 1906 in Jacksboro, Texas (Jack County); died 29 Nov 1993 in Oklahoma. She married James Herbert Moper 31 Oct 1927; born 13 Jun 1898 in Ada, Oklahoma; died 1982. Graduation: Stonewall High School. Attended college at East Central University in Ada, University of Oklahoma in Norman, and College of Fine Arts in Chickasha --Received degree from there.Occupation: School Teacher for more than 30 years: Red Oak, Pontotoc County for 2 years and 32 years in McClain County, Oklahoma. + 6 v.
