Am researching the various Lindsey families that were very early settlers in East Texas. My g-g-grandfather John Lindsey and his brother Isaac came ca 1833 and perfected land grants under the Mexican government. While returning for his family, John fell ill and died at Vicksburg MS in Jan 1836. His widow, Catherine Lindsey, following his deathbed instructions, came to Panola Co TX later that same year. The children of John and Catherine are Nancy Barcenia (married William Watson), Catherine Eliza (married James Newell Walton), Angeline (married Joseph D. Beauchamp), Mary Ann (married Jereboam Beauchamp, then ? King) and John W.H. (married Sarah Jane Davis). John W.H. Lindsey is my brick wall. He was living in Panola Co when his mother's estate was being settled in 1850, but he wasn't enumerated on the 1850 Census of Panola Co. He married Sarah Jane Feb 10, 1856 in Panola Co. He was not enumerated on the 1860 Census of Panola Co, but was showing it as his place of residence when he was acting as executor for the estates of his sister Angeline Beauchamp and her husband Joseph D. after they died in 1862. A Quit Claim Deed signed in Robertson Co shows John W.H. deceased and lists his children as Birk Hilliard Lindsey, John Lindsey and Vashti Lindsey who was married to ? Morris. John and Isaac Lindsey were quite probably the sons of Johon W. Lindsey and Lydia King. Other brothers who also came to TX were Charles and Samuel.
