John C. FRENCH Article Text: San Antonio, Tex., May 16.--Col. John C. FRENCH died at Cuero, DeWitt county, at 10 o'clock this morning. He was a capitalist, and owned a great quantity of property in that town as well as in San Antonio. He built the gasworks here, the building now used by the government and a great many others. He was also the projector and builder of the Gulf, Texas and Pacific railway from Indianola to Victoria, which subsequently failed, and upon which the city of San Antonio is now paying bonds.
