MCCAIN Article Text: Mexia, Tex., July 25.--Dr. Joseph J. MCCAIN died last night at 9 o'clock at his home in this city and was buried this evening at 5 o'clock. Every business house in the city was closed during the funeral showing the honor and respect he was held in by his fellow-citizens. The funeral procession was the largest in the history of the city and was participated in by the masons, knights of honor, knights and ladies of honor, ancient order of united workmen and knights of pythias, of all which orders he was a member. He came to Limestone county, Tex., in 1869 to practice his profession. May 1, 1871 he married Miss Ada, oldest daughter of Judge D. M. PRENDERGAST. He has been a resident of Mexia since the town was started in 1872 and took an active part in all matters tending to the building up of his town and county; was a city alderman, having served three consecutive terms. He had all those qualities of heart and mind that gain the affection and respect of our fellowmen.
