We arrived at Combes at 3:00 o'clock Thursday morning. There were 9 autos to drive us over the Valley. The first day we drove 100 miles. Will mention some of the towns we passed through: Combes, La Ferie, Mercedes, Donna, San Juan, Pharr, McAllen, Mission, Harlingen, San Benito. From town to town were beautiful farms of alfalfa, cabbage, onions, peas, beans, oranges, lemons, strawberries, bananas, well in fact, anything you want to grow. We stopped at two beautiful homes where they served dinner in picnic style. Mrs. Wetzle has our thanks for her kindness shown us on our trip. Saturday we went to Brownsville and crossed the river over to old Mexico and visited Matamoras road on a street car drawn by two mules, saw lots of old ancient buildings, went through the old cathedral, cemetery and city market. Ask Mr. Lands how he likes the little Mexican girlies. We left Brownsville at 3:30 for home; spent Sunday in San Antonio, visited the Alamo. Twenty-six of us went on auto trucks twenty miles, visited all the missions, ostrich farm, hot wells, eight of us went to the post but did not see many of the boys as they were on the border. Sunday night we had quite a nice time, sang religious songs. Those in the party were J. B. Elmore and wife, D. W. Wheeler, H. W. Johnson and daughter, D. B. Johnson, W. C. Drake, J. H. Lindley, R. W. Brown, J. W. Johnson and daughter, J. A. Randle and daughter, W. T. McGill, J. M McWhirter and wife, C. T. McWhirter, R. N. Johnson, wife and baby, L. P. Thomas, T. S. Clinton and wife, J.
