J. HULL Article Text: Houston, Tex., Feb. 12.--This morning at the Hutchins house on Franklin street, C. J. HULL, of Chicago breathed his last after a brief illness. He took his bed only about three days ago, though he had been suffering from Bright's disease for a long time, and while he did not take his bed three weeks back, he has for nearly that length of time been complaining of feeling worse than usual. Mr. HULL came here from Chicago, and by those who are best informed is said to be worth $9,000,000 or $10,000,000. He was the head of a large real estate business, the principal offices being at Chicago, with others at Baltimore, Atlanta, Boston and Lincoln, Neb. He had purchased a large lot of real estate in and about Houston, having expressed on more occasions than one the greatest confidence in a bright future for the bayou city. He had become one owner of 600 lots within the city limits, most of them near the boundary line, and upon many of them he had erected houses to rent or sell ! to good purchasers. His sales were generally to laboring men and were on the installment plan and easy to reach by the proper parties. He was here a year ago and remained several months, but returned to the north and came back this winter about Nov. 22, since which time he has been making Houston and the Hutchins house his home. It is said that on account of a genial climate he would have moved to Houston permanently but the terms of his life insurance policy, which amounted to $100,000, would not allow him to remain here only a certain number of months and then in the winter season. He was slightly over 70 years of age, was a widower, having at one time been the head of a family consisting of a wife and three daughters, all of whom died several years ago. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ TX-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
