J. P. ALEXANDER Article Text: Fort Worth, Tex., April 27.--The funeral of Capt. J. P. ALEXANDER, Thursday, was largely attended, and was under the direction of the knights of pythias. The body was taken from the castle hall to the Fourth Street Methodist church, where Rev. J. Morgan WELLS uttered a beautiful and feeling address. On the coffin rested a floral harp with broken strings, a pillow with the letters F. C. B. and a cross. He was a New Yorker by birth, and came to Texas in 1835 and fought in the war for Texas independence against Mexico. He carried the mail for the Texas republic from Nashville on the Brazos river to Cameron, ninety miles, and had thrilling Indian fights while engaged in that duty. He was a member of Ross' rangers when that corps enlisted in the United States army. He was elected county clerk after the war, and was displaced by the E. J. DAVIS government. Major CHALMERS was a wealthy and a distinguished citizen. His funeral will be conducted by Dr. KING, the Presbyterian minister, and the odd fellows and masons, to both of which orders he belonged, will share in the burial rites. S. W. BLOUNT Article Text: San Augustine, Tex., Feb. 9.--Col. S. W. BLOUNT, the last surviving signer of the declaration of Texas independence, died suddenly at his home this morning at 10 o'clock. He had been complaining a little for several days, but not seriously. He was down town yesterday evening on horseback, slept well last night, got up this morning, ate a light breakfast and expressed a desire to go down town, but his wife and daughter dissuaded him. About 10 o'clock he complained of feeling badly and sat on the side of his lounge, pulled off one boot and sank back dead, his faithful wife and daughter, Miss Emma, being his only attendants.
