A. Morgan Article Text: Athens Weekly Review March 29, 1917 Obituary Died at her home in Athens, Mrs. C. A. Morgan. The subject of this sketch was born in Marshall County, Kentucky, July 31, 1846, died March 16, 1917. She was the daughter of J. W. and Elizabeth Frizzell and moved to Texas with the family in 1866. On April 2, 1868, she was married to Capt. D. M. Morgan, who with her daughter, Miss Musie Morgan, survive her. She united with the Christian church in 1882 and was from that time on an earnest and faithful Christian. It can be truthfully said of her that she possessed all the qualities that make a noble character. She was especially kind, modest and patient, was dearly beloved by her relatives and neighbors. In her dealings with others she was always careful to treat them exactly right and rather than fail would do more than she considered necessary. A short time before her death she told those nearest her that to be a Christian was the only thing in life worth while. She so lived in this world that when the summons came for her depature from the shores of time she was perfectly reconciled, saying she was ready and willing to go. So passed from mortal life the beautiful, lovable character. Mrs. Celia A. Morgan, one whose many virtues are worthy the emulation of sorrowing loved ones left behind. A FRIEND NOTE: Mrs. Celia A. Gordon Burgamy Article Text: I have been requested by friends at Murchison and the Murchison correspondent to write the following. On April 4th, 1924 at 3 p. m. the angel of the Lord carried away the soul of Mrs. Lula J. (Gordon) Burgamy, of Murchison, Texas. Mrs. Burgamy, who was born, March 17, 1854 and was married to Emory G. Burgamy December 8, 1870, in Spalding county Georgia, was a woman of strong Christian character and a devoted member of the M. E. church since 1869. She endured much suffering during her last illness, but patient, and wanted to go, brave to the last moment. She was buried in **Larue cemetery bye the side of her dear husband, who had gone on some seventeen years before. She made her home with her only surviving daughter, Mrs. Porter Luker of Murchison. They had 10 children, 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Only three children survive her, Marvin Burgamy of LaRue, Eustace Burgamy of Athens and Mrs. Cora Luker of Murchison. Mrs. Essie Martin, the wife of a prominent business man of Murchison is her granddaughter whom she raised from a six month old girl when her mother d! ied. She loved Essie as her own and Essie had the opportunity to return a part of this great kindness in her last days. Rev. Joe B. Wells, Methodist pastor of Murchison was visiting in Texarkana when she died, but came at once to attend the funeral services. I have known this good woman for years have been in her home;; she has been in our home; have heard her testify for her Lord and Master. She was a good woman and her children know where to find her. Emulate her good example and meet her in the great beyond. Mrs. Burgamy was known all over the eastern end of the county and those who knew her best loved her most, for she always met them with a smile. B. C. Hall **note: There is a listing for Lula J. Burgamy in the Morrison Chapel Cemetery, this is also known as Larue Cemetery these are the other Burgamy names in the cemetery beside her: Unmarked Grave BURGAMY, Edward M. The farmers are all very busy trying to get some of the grass killed before it gets too much of a headway. Nearly everyone has their cotton planted but some are afraid they will have to plant over. Some few are through thinning corn while others have not started. The good women have real pretty gardens now. Everything is pretty and growing fast. Very soon the table will be loaded with peas, potatoes and other good things. Ode Green was taken to Tyler to a sanatarium (sic) Saturday and operated upon for appendicitis. We are glad to report him as improving and trust he will soon be able to come home. The good neighbors are going to give Mr. Green a day’s work this week. We hope a large number will be present. Brother Edwards of Athens preached at Concord Sunday. He is to be the regular pastor. He preached a fine sermon and we feel sure he will do good work there. Mrs. J. H. Weatherly has been on the sick list but we are glad to report her much better. Mrs. Goodgame of Athens spent a few days last week with Miss Willie Speaks. Mr. and Mrs. F. Gimble, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Beal, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Green and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Doughy spent Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Larkin. Well, the candidates are getting pretty thick around in this part of the country. We are in hopes the most deserving wins out. Of course some one is going to be left behind. In the trustee election of April 5. Mr. George Conor was elected. We feel sure Mr. Connor (spelled both ways in this article) will make us a good trustee. There was a large crowd present at the singing last third Sunday evening. They certainly sang well and we extend an invitation for them all to be back the next third Sunday in May. Several from here attended an Easter Egg Hunt at Mr. Lawrence Maynards after the singing on third Sunday evening. A nice time was reported. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ TX-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! TM http://www.NewspaperAbstracts.com

C. Hall 1896 recollections Article Text: LOOKING BACKWARD To the Editor of the Review In 1896, just twenty-eight years ago while I held the office of “Supreme Judge of the Supreme Court” of New York, Precinct No. 7, Henderson county, Texas, there was a young man by the name of Bolton who lived four miles south of New York with Bud Wood. There was a Widow McIntire who lived near them on the E. G. Poston farm. Since then the T. & N. O. Railroad has been built and the thriving little city of LaRue builded (sic) near these homes. Mr. Bolton courted Mrs. McIntire’s oldest daughter, Mollie McIntire. The day of the wedding was eventually agreed upon and a big Evening Turkey Dinner prepared and according to agreement, I was present to perform the ceremony and united in marriage Miss Mollie and Mr. Bolton. I did justice to the good dinner and remember well this splendid happy occasion. Years later the McIntire family moved away. Mr. Bolton moved to West Texas and Wednesday evening Mr. Bolton stopped off the Cotton Belt, ran in our store and made us glad and sad. Says he has made a success of life, owns 160 acres land worth $60 per acre. Has considerable town property; money ahead, etc. He lives at Lamesa, Texas. I was happy to know this. But then he turned and said, I want to knock around and see other old friends. Where will I find J. B. Wofford? I answered, he is dead. Well, where is Will Wofford: He has gone too. Where is Reagan Reagan is dead too. Well, where will I find the Richardson Brothers Will and Frank? Both have passed away. But Will’s son, Chas is City Clerk. Where is Little Jack Wofford? Right where you left him over twenty years ago - at the court house, now city marshal. Well, I will go see them. Nearly all whom he called for had passed to their new home. Brother, we are here today, tomorrow gone. Am I getting old? Am I growing better or worse? Is my daily life helpful to anyone? Can’t I render more efficient service? How? Serious questions these. Let’s render more service to our neighbors, next year we may not me here. B. C. Hall ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ TX-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
