Good afternoon all, To reply to Lisa's question, it is my understanding from the reading I've done that the draft records were not military induction records and therefore would not include a unit and date of enlistment. There is a really interesting read on this subject at http://www.jewishgen.org/infofiles/wwidraft.htm I would like to know if anyone has had the experience I just had! I went online and applied for my father's service record from WWII and Korea. I received a telephone call from the National Archives in St. Louis saying they couldn't find him even though I gave as much information that I had. Now I have received a letter saying that I would have to provide his SERVICE number before they could do another search. I have searched and searched and can't find any document with that number! Social Security numbers were not used until the early 70s and are apparently not cross-referenced in the military files. My husband's letters during the Vietnam War had his service number on the envelope, but the one letter I have from my father just has the name of the ship he was on.
