    3. It has come to my attention that perhaps I "assume" a bit too much when sending out the GSGS newsletters via email. I forget that not everyone has been using a computer for a long time, and know what to do with attachments in general, and .pdf attachments specificially, so here's a little tutorial: Since Outlook Express is the Windows default, and the majority of people are using Windows of some variety, I'll use that as my example. When you receive an attachment in OE, you will see a little paperclip icon in the top right corner of the message (there will also be a paperclip icon after the date received as you look at the list of messages in your Inbox). When you are reading the message, click on the paperclip icon at the top right, then click on the attachment and choose to "Open" (you can also "Save Attachments" at this point, which is safer to save them to a folder on your hard drive where you can scan the files with an anti-virus program first, but I can get into that later.) To read an Adobe .pdf (portable document format) file, you will need to have Adobe's free Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. If the newsletter attachment doesn't open, then you will need to go to Adobe's web site and download it at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html (*I* usually uncheck the boxes under "Also Download", since all I want is the Acobat Reader.) You will need to remember where the file ! is downloaded (or download it to the Desktop so you can find it easily). Double-click on the downloaded file, and Acrobat Reader will install on your system. Once it's installed, you can delete the file you downloaded if you like. I HOPE this is clear enough for everyone to understand. I've been using computers for over 30 years now, so a lot of what I do is sort of second nature, and I don't really think about it, and I don't always use terms beginners can understand. If you need assistance on anything computer related, don't hesitate to ask me to explain it. Cheers, Phil
