Regular Meeting of East Texas Genealogical Society, Tyler, TX Saturday, October 13, 2007 Tyler Public Library - Taylor Auditorium 2:00 p.m. Speaker: Jack Selden Program: "Return: The Parker Story" Jack Selden has been researching, writing, and speaking about the famous Parker family for more than forty years. Fortunately, he married a member of this illustrious family. He has accumulated a wealth of documents that relate to the family and has interviewed scores of the early family members. He will discuss his book, Return, The Parker Family, with emphasis on the role the family played during the Republic of Texas and the State of Texas. Jack Selden was born in Palestine and graduated from high school there. He began his undergraduate work at the University of Chicago and completed it at George Washington University where he received a bachelor's degree. He served twenty-one years in the United States Air Force. After his retirement, he returned to Palestine, where he now lives. Selden was elected to three terms as Mayor of Palestine. He continues to be active in local activities including the Anderson County Historical Commission, the annual Anderson County History Forum, cemetery preservation and registration, and various genealogical interests. For many years, he has been a freelance writer. Besides newspapers, he has written for Texas Highways, Texas Star, and Southwestern Art. He was a contributor to the six-volume New Handbook of Texas published by the Texas State Historical Commission. He has appeared on the History Channel as an expert on the Parker story. Following a short refreshment period, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Computer Interest Group of the East Texas Genealogical Society will meet. Beverly Bailey Odom, Larry Oliver and/or Scott Fitzgerald will host a roundtable discussion on computer related topics with questions from the audience. ETGS has began a First Families of East Texas covering our six counties.     3. I am in WA state and cannot attend this function but am related to a Parker family. I would like to have him look at what I have and use it as he sees fit. or NOT.
