I have no clue-- but my family moved to Texas because of Land ----- Original Message ----- From: SusieKnu1@aol.com<mailto:SusieKnu1@aol.com> To: TX-ETGS-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:TX-ETGS-L@rootsweb.com> ; TXUPSHUR-D-request@rootsweb.com<mailto:TXUPSHUR-D-request@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, August 25, 2007 9:33 AM Subject: [TX-ETGS] History of late 1870s in Upshur County I am just realizing a lot of my family and friends arrived in Upshur County, around the East Mountain, Gilmer area by late 1870s. Can someone give me an idea as to why the families were moving from Missouri, Arkansas and as far away as Georgia to come to Upshur? Perhaps land, mining, etc? Would like some input if possible. 3. I don't live that far from the East Mountain area and would assume that good farm and ranch land would be lucrative for those looking for same.
