>From the FGS Delegate Digest for those interested in speaking at the FGS conference in Little Rock: The Federation of Genealogical Societies and Arkansas Genealogical Society announce an invitation to submit lecture proposals for at the Little Rock Statehouse Convention Center Little Rock, Arkansas, September 2-5, 2009 Request for Lecture Proposals - Deadline March 1, 2008 We encourage lecture proposals that focus on the cultural and ethnic roots of the south central United States. These groups include individuals of European, African, and Asian descent. . Basic research topics . Methodology . Archivists serving genealogists . Oral History . Technology . Record Types (military, land, probate, tax, etc.) . Land Records . Religious and ethnic groups . Society Management Submissions on original topics are especially encouraged, including those not specifically related to genealogical topics, but that may be of interest to researchers. Potential speakers may submit any number of proposals, though a maximum of 4 lectures per speaker will be selected (if chosen). While most sessions are expected to follow the usual one hour lecture format, the program committee will consider proposals for panels and workshops. Sponsored lecture proposals are welcomed (please contact the Program Chair for details). Please include the following information in your proposals: . Name, address, telephone, website (if available), and e-mail address . Title of presentation . Brief description of presentation (up to 50 words for the registration booklet) . Audience Level (beginning, intermediate, advanced) . Outline or summary of presentation . Audio/visual requirements (Computer technology is strongly encouraged) please note that FGS does not provide LCD projectors, computers or live internet connections. An overhead projector will be provided if needed. . Summary of recent speaking experience. (Those who have not spoken at a national conference before should include an audio recording of a recent lecture.) . Brief biography (50 words for the registration booklet, including speaker's name) Proposals will be evaluated principally on the following criteria: . Speaker's experience, skill, and ability to produce a high quality oral presentation . Relevance of the topic to the conference themes . Originality of the topic . Anticipated interest level in the topic Proposals must be received by March 1, 2008, and may be submitted through regular mail or e-mail. E-mail submissions must be in Word or PDF format and sent to: fgsprogramchair@fgs.org. Please do not duplicate electronic and print submissions. Speakers will receive compensation according to FGS guidelines. Details on the compensation package will be available on the FGS Web site. Camera-ready handouts are required for each lecture or workshop presentation and will be compiled in a syllabus distributed to conference participants. The deadline for submissions of syllabus materials is April 5, 2009. Guidelines for the formatting of the syllabus content will be included with the invitations to speak. Invitations to speak will be issued in September 2008 and the deadline for acceptance and submission of a signed contract will be October 1, 2008.
