The East Texas Genealogical Society will hold its regular monthly meeting on Saturday, August 9, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Tyler Public Library in the Taylor Auditorium. The featured speaker will be Marynell Bryant. Ms. Bryant, a professional researcher and lecturer, is currently serving her third term as President of the Texas State Genealogical Society. She will present a program titled “War of 1812 Records and Resources.” About one out of every fourteen men in the US was involved in the war between June of 1812 and February of 1815. Most Americans today have at least one ancestor that served, and many of the service records, bounty land warrants for service, and pension files are available. Ms. Bryant will discuss the records and how to obtain copies. Approximately thirty minutes following the conclusion of the regular program and refreshments, the Computer Interest Group of the East Texas Genealogical Society will meet with Frances Growchowski who will present a program on “Organization and Files That Work for Me.” ETGS meetings are free and open to the public.
