My friend Jack from San Jacinto High school explains it all to me. Actually, it's San Jacinto Jr. College and it's central campus is located in Pasadena TX. It has several satellite campuses', one being the North Campus. Rest assured, our 'old High School still exist, but under the name of HCCS.....Houston Community College System, with our old school being the central campus. I have basically not lived in Texas since 1961-- leaving to join the Navy and visit the East Coast then in 1967 moving to the West Coast to WA state-- only visiting Texas once in a blue moon (which by the way is coming up-- the blue moon that is) Thanks to all that helped out on this question. San Jacinto High School was in Harris County, Texas-- I lived in a burg called Almeda, Texas but it's now Houston. I am a white Native Texan born in Houston, Texas, raised until 12 in Corpus Christi and then moved to Almeda Texas. San Jacinto High School is being re done as we speak-- since I belong to the alumni and they keep me informed. My first name is Quinn (my maiden name is Urban) and my Last name is Dahlstrom and my husband is Swedish. I am Heinz 57 I will check with one of the members of the alumni and find out where San Jacinto North is. The other problem is that I graduate in 1960--- And African's were allowed in white schools until they were white africans. ;o) Thanks for writing back Quinn Dahlstrom ----- Original Message ----- From: Lashundra Kelly<mailto:lashk285@hotmail.com> To: tx-etgs@rootsweb.com<mailto:tx-etgs@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 23, 2007 7:21 AM Subject: Re: [TX-ETGS] Fw: unreadable gravestone ++++ NEW; EDUCATION ++++ hey no, San Jacinto College-North is in Houston,Texas in Harris, County. Sherry, I have done a lot of research on some of the East Texas Walker's - did any of yours come from the Greenville Co. SC - DeKalb Co. GA area - to Randolph Co. Al - to Hopkins, Upshur or Titus Cos. TX? A large group of Walker's came to the East Texas area in 1847, when 31 new counties were created in Texas, and opened up for settlement by offering pre-emption land that was being parceled out by the State. Ms. Moran - Please do be critical - I like it when items are corrected - then we can provide the correct information. I believe that I now have it correct now. Hi, My great-grandfather's tombstone in the Bullard Cemetery is marked in your list as "unreadable" and his initals are wrong. I know the tombstone is very hard to read, but I have an earlier picture taken when you could read the stone. His initials are "G. J. S. Walker," not the "C.J.S." that it looks like. His tombstone reads "born January 18, 1842" and "died May 13, 1911." If you need anything else to correct this listing, please let me know. Thank you so much for all the work you do - I really appreciate it and am not trying to be critical, at all. Sherry Barton Moran
