Courtesy of Scott Fitzgerald, we have added the years 1997 through 2005 to our archived Bulletin's. They can be found here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txetgs/Publications/the_bulletin/archives/archived_ bulletins.html Watch for any wrapping of the URL. This concludes 'The Bulletin Archives' update project - we now have CY 1977 through the upcomming month of 2007 on the web. We are missing only a few months in 1977 & 1978, and a month in 1982. Hi Sue, I am not sure if this helps or not but Franklin County has an active genealogy society. ETGS has traded with them and have most if not all of their books at the Tyler library. I am not sure about Upshur Co. The Longview library may have something also so you might check there. Forwarded at Mr. Davis' request: Mr. Fitzgerald, Thank you for considering assisting in the very noble cause. I need the name, address, relation to soldier and phone number. I will have to proper Casualty Office contact the family and mail them a kit. These soldiers gave the county listed as their Home Of Record when they entered service. Below is a statement that I use in posting that explains the process. When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 140 families from Texas that have not been located. When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (77 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find these families. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency. I will be grateful for any assistance in locating these families. We have been informed by the Holiday Inn Select that they are out of non-smoking rooms at the group rate for Thursday and Friday nights (Nov. 8 & 9). We are in the process of trying to arrange additional rooms or a group rate at the Best Western next door or one of the other hotels nearby. As soon as I know something further I will let everyone know. Scott Fitzgerald TSGS President
Don't Miss the Genealogy Roadshow Presented by Lone Star Chapter, APG at the Texas State GS Annual Conference 9-10 November 2007 in Tyler, Texas The Lone Star Chapter of APG is conducting a Genealogy Roadshow at the Texas State Genealogical Society (TSGS) Annual Conference on November 9th and 10th. We are offering free 15-minute consultations during breaks to provide ideas to solve one genealogical problem for conference attendees. To participate in the Genealogy Roadshow please print this linked registration form <http://lonestarapg.com/roadshow_form.pdf>, complete it, and bring it to the conference along with any pertinent documentation. At the conference visit the Lone Star Chapter APG booth to be assigned a consultation time slot. At the time assigned an experienced genealogist will discuss your problem and offer research suggestions that may help further your research. Due to the time limitations it is necessary to focus on a very specific research question. For example: * There were four men with the same name in the same place at the same time. How can I determine which was my ancestor? * I need help determining my great-grandmother's maiden name. The documents I already have are [provide a brief list of sources here with details provided on the document]. * My ancestor served in the Civil War. I have his pension file. What other records might be available to add to his story in this time-frame? * I can trace this family in every census but one. What techniques might I use to find them? Questions are not limited to these topics. These are just examples to show how you might focus on a very specific question. Lone Star Chapter APG members will be available to assist as needed in focusing your question.
