Hi Sue, I will add a comment to Scott's. Take a look at Hopkins County, too. I did a Walker historical research analysis in Upshur, Titus, and Hopkins Counties for two years in 2004 and 2005 for descendants of Henry Tandy Walker (1779-1841) and his wife, Mary Cureton (1780-1849), and wrote a book which I titled, "The Life and Times of Sylvanus Walker and His Descendants" (April 2, 1803-1865/66). This Walker group migrated from Virginia, to Laurens/Greenville Co. SC, and from there to DeKalb Co. GA ca 1825, then to Randolph Co., Alabama in 1836-1837, and from there to Upshur Co., TX. Sylvanus brought all seven of his children (four married couples and three other minors) on this journey. The parents of Sylvanus were Henry Tandy Walker and Mary Cureton, both born in Lunenburg Co. VA. Sylvanus Walker and all of his children are found on the tax rolls of Upshur, Titus and Hopkins County, as early as 1847. Sylvanus died in Hopkins Co. between the summer of 1865 when he last paid taxes on his farm, and the next summer of 1866 when his wife, Sarah, began paying the taxes. In the spring of 1869, she and her oldest son, Henry Tandy Walker (jr) moved to Sebastian and Polk Co., Arkansas. I followed the tax, deeds, and marriage records of this family who of course came to Texas, when 31 newly created counties had just been formed at the end of the Republic of Texas, and pre-emption land was being offered to entice folks to come to Texas for "land." Thus, the now famous signs left on doors of old vacated homeplaces scattered across the South -- "Gone to Texas." That's when the big migration to Texas began to take place, tho many came when it was still a Republic. I did find another family of Walker's in -- I think it was Titus and Hopkins County - who were (if I remember correctly) from Missouri. I tried, but I never found a connection to the Sylvanus Walker group from Alabama and Georgia. I did try to run down some of those Walkers in Franklin and Camp counties, but still made no connection. Your names do not sound familiar, but then, my research was several years ago. . Do any of these names sound familiar to you? Felix Henry Walker, b. 1800; John Mansfield Walker, b. 1805; Sarah Moon Blagrave Walker, b. 1808; Mary Hudson Walker, b. 1810, Elizabeth Cureton Walker, b. 1815. These were all the other children of Henry Tandy Walker and Mary Cureton. Sylvanus Walker was Henry Tandy's second son and those listed above were siblings of Sylvanus. Hopkins County Genealogical Society's Library has excellent resources, and volunteers who will help for a fee (and some for free). Their website is outstanding! Please feel free to forward this to others who may be interested. We are not going to accept registrations until the conference as that seems the most fair way to allow all TSGS Conference attendees a chance to sign up. But interested persons can use the links to print the forms and come prepared for a consultation. http://lonestarapg.com/roadshow_forms.htm Don't Miss the Genealogy Roadshow Presented by Lone Star Chapter, Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) at the Texas State GS Annual Conference 9-10 November 2007 in Tyler, Texas The Lone Star Chapter of APG is conducting a Genealogy Roadshow at the Texas State Genealogical Society (TSGS) Annual Conference on November 9th and 10th. We are offering free 15-minute consultations during breaks to provide ideas to solve one genealogical problem for conference attendees. To participate in the Genealogy Roadshow please print this linked registration form <http://lonestarapg.com/roadshow_form.pdf>, complete it, and bring it to the conference along with any pertinent documentation. At the conference visit the Lone Star Chapter APG booth to be assigned a consultation time slot. At the time assigned an experienced genealogist will discuss your problem and offer research suggestions that may help further your research. Due to the time limitations it is necessary to focus on a very specific research question. For example: * There were four men with the same name in the same place at the same time. How can I determine which was my ancestor? * I need help determining my great-grandmother's maiden name. The documents I already have are [provide a brief list of sources here with details provided on the document]. * My ancestor served in the Civil War. I have his pension file. What other records might be available to add to his story in this time-frame? * I can trace this family in every census but one. What techniques might I use to find them? Questions are not limited to these topics. These are just examples to show how you might focus on a very specific question. Lone Star Chapter APG members will be available to assist as needed in focusing your question.

Charles, Thanks for the input. This could very well be the 'Tinkle' family I am looking for. I have researched two Tinkle families that were in that area at the same time. Research on each family and so far have not been able to find a connection to each other. Both go back to the 1790's and both followed each around the East and South. The connection will probably be in Europe somewhere. I will certainly check out the area you have written about. I know that Thaddeus Tinkle was in Rust County, Tx. and may have died there about 1887. The Tinkle Lake could have been named for either of the Tinkle families, Both was land owners as well. Again thanks for a new clue. Thanks Scott. Whoops, I won a "placement" so that means no first place and I will have to work harder. So glad some others are getting in the race. There was a lot out there who are excellent - DGS, Collins County, Gregg, and a number of others. Bet a dollar you won 1st again and you deserve it. I have never in my life known a person more dedicated to our hobby - and with such excellent skills and intelligence, Scott. Your mother should be very, very proud of you, and I am sure she is.
