    1. [TX-ETGS] Oakwood Cemetery Restoration - Tyler TX
    2. Scott Fitzgerald
    3. Hi All, There is a very nice article in today's Tyler paper about the restoration of one of Smith County's historic cemeteries - Oakwood Cemetery. It can be found at: http://www.tylerpaper.com/article/20071211/NEWS08/712110324 East Texas Genealogical Society has photographed the cemetery and placed the photos on the web for all to access free at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/smith/cemph/oakwood/oakwood.html ETGS has also placed a transcription of its cemetery book for the early 80s on-line at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/smith/cemeter.html#anchor27988 ETGS is working on a new updated transcription. I would like everyone who has family buried to make sure we photographed their tombstone. If you don't find a photo it might tell us if it was missed or missing. If you have a photo of a tombstone that we don't have, we would like to get a copy. If you a better quality or easier to read photo, we would love to get a copy of it also. We are really interested in any photos of the African American section of the cemetery. Nearly all of the markers are gone. If you have information please contact Larry Oliver at oliverl@suddenlink.net The next "Spirits of Oakwood" tour is set for March 29, 2008. More information will follow as I find out about it.
