    1. [TX-ETGS] Curtis Roy Henry obit
    2. edianegardner
    3. I am trying to locate an obituary for Curtis Roy Henry. He is buried in the Bullard Cemetery in Smith County. He died September 11, 1982, He was the 2nd child born to my grandmother's baby sister, both of whom were born before 1900 and are now deceased. We know he was married 3 times and had one child but do not know how to locate her as the families lost touch more than 40 years ago after the parents died. Is there any one that would be able to help us? No one lives in the Smith County area. I live in San Antonio and others are in VA, AR, OH, IL, and other states. Thanks Diane

    1. [TX-ETGS] Don Raney To Speak at ETGS Saturday, Oct. 11
    2. Mike & June Everheart
    3. The East Texas Genealogical Society will hold its regular monthly meeting on Saturday, October 11, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Tyler Public Library in the Taylor Auditorium. The featured speaker will be Don Raney, a sixth generation Texan and an active genealogist for over thirty years. Don has spoken at many local, state, and national genealogical seminars and currently teaches Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Genealogy classes at Richland College in Dallas. The subject of his program will be “British Migrations to the American Colonies.” Mr. Raney will explain how researching our ancestors in Britain differs from researching their records after they arrived in America. British migrations beginning in 1607 and continuing through 1775 will be discussed - the counties or regions they came from, why they left Europe, and where they settled here. Included will be the East Anglian Puritans settlement in New England, the West Country Cavaliers settlement in the Chesapeake, the North Midland Quakers settlement in the Delaware Valley, and the British and Scottish Borderers settlements in the backwoods of America. Approximately thirty minutes following the conclusion of the regular program and refreshments, the Computer Interest Group of the East Texas Genealogical Society will meet and Sibyl Creasey will present a program titled “Creating Web Pages.” ETGS meetings are free and open to the public. For more information about ETGS go to our web-site: www.etgs.org or contact June Everheart, Publicity Director at 1stvp@etgs.org or (903)877-4501.

    1. [TX-ETGS] Pennsylvania death certificates
    2. Scott Fitzgerald
    3. Pennsylvania researchers have started a grassroots campaign to get their state death certificates made available. Here is a link to the website about the effort to have Pennsylvania's older state death certificates made available online: http://users.rcn.com/timarg/PaHR-Access.htm . Please pass this on to your members and anyone you know who is into Pennsylvania genealogy and history research. If you write a letter of support to Governor Rendell please send a copy of the letter so they can keep track of the endorsements (via email to timarg@rcn.com would be fine). Although they try not to control what anyone writes they are more than willing to assist in any way they can. You could mention how well the death certificate database has worked in Texas and without any problems and that it includes records up to 1976. The website has sample letters as well as contact information for the governor and other state legislators in Pennsylvania.

    3. I think that they are taking the reeds and processing them through the machine (flattening them) and feeding them into the canisters which pulls them into a tight roll. The rolls are removed and used for caning chairs, etc. My mother is in her 80's and knows about caning. I'll ask her to look at the photo. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jim Barrett<mailto:parino@flash.net> To: tx-etgs@rootsweb.com<mailto:tx-etgs@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 19, 2008 11:28 AM Subject: Re: [TX-ETGS] Old Photo Try, try again!!!
