hi, Would someone mind looking this one up? please? Jackson, Henry MONTGOMERY CO.TX 1840 I hope this census listing gives family members. Thanks so much, Dena
Texas was not a state in 1840 -- so no 1840 census. Anyway, the first census where families were listed is 1850. Wayne, Actually, there was census taken before TX was a state. http://www.rootsweb.com/~txgenweb/restx.htm a ways down the page, there are some census taken 1835. Settlements of Tx. There were some counties in TX in 1840 also, many formed a few years before. See a map here http://www.segenealogy.com/texas/tx_maps/tx01.htm which shows Texas in 1834, with some counties already formed. here, you can see census maps from 1840-1930 of Texas. Texas won its independence from Mexico and became a Republic in 1836. My family has been in Tx since before it was a Republic, lately I have been doing some research on the settlements and such, or I wouldn't have known either. Don't you just love history? I do.
