So - born in 1885, Chester Smith would be about age 15 in 1900. Would Mary have been an adult and head of household in order to qualify for the index, or are we looking for two children who would be living in one of the Smith households in 1900 Van Zandt County? The only Smith indexed in Van Zandt who was born in Kentucky was an Andy Smith, age 58, and single. There's a Chester Smith in Fannin County, born 1881, boarding with a Huff family, the owners of a saloon. Chester was working as a bartender, probably in Huff's establishment, and could possibly be the one you need, but no Mary Smith in the household.
