    3. Hello Dena, Here is what I find on Clark, J. W. and William Perry. J. W. Perry 1 Male, Age 20, Black, 2 Females, Age 16, Black, 1 Slave House. Clark Perry 1 Male, Age 26, Black, 2 Females, Age 25, Black, 3 Males, Age 9, Black, 4 Males, Age 5, Black, 5 Females, Age 3, Black, 6 Males, Age 1, Black, 1 Slave House. William Perry 1 Female, Age 16, Black, 1 Slave House. This was enumerated Sept. 8, 1860. I hope this helps.     3. Johnny, I saw only Wm. Perry's name listed on page 422 and his name showed what I sent to Dena yesterday, not what you have listed below. Did you find Clark and J.W. on another page? If so, what page number did you find the other two on? Also, go back and study the page a little better. It took me a little while to figure out what it was saying. For instance: What you show for Clark below would be a total of 6 slaves, not 21. In other words, there would be 1 male aged 26, 1 female aged 25, 1 male aged 9, 1 male aged 5, etc., each listed on a separate line for a total of six.     3. Okay, let's put this one to bed, folks. Linda, I think what you sent Dena was the slave enumeration for William Petty on page 422A, column 1, which shows: 1 black male, age 20 and 1 black female aged 16, erroneously numbered as 1 and 2 in the # of slaves column instead of 1 and 1. The slave enumerations for the Perrys are all in a wad on page 422B, column 2 The enumerator for Smith County mistakenly NUMBERED the slaves for each owner in the column designated for the number of slaves in each category. Instead of writing 1 age 26, male black and then 1 age 25 female black, 1 age 9 male black, etc., he numbered each entry 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - and so on. I am sure that when he did the counting for the totals for the county, he used the total numbers for each owner instead of what he invented as a numbering system.
