    3. Carol, The answers you need may not be found in census records. Have someone check the cemetery where Mindy is buried. It is likely that because she died young, she may be buried in a family plot which will give you clues to family relationships. Check for a marriage record about 1890 for William Jeff Shaw to see who he married, and any Carnes marriages for a Carnes/Lunn (or something similar) marriage. Also have someone check, either at the TX Archives or at the courthouse at San Jacinto county, for any estate settlements of Carnes and Shaws to see who named your father, Fred, as an heir. My best guess, based on what you know, is that Lou Carnes married a Lunn and had Millie and Mindy. Her Lunn husband perhaps died and she then married Jeff Shaw and had Richard and Rosa and died prior to the 1910 census. If that is the case, Richard Shaw would have been Mindy's half-brother and your father's uncle, and Pete Shaw at least a half-cousin to your dad, but that doesn't explain the "double" cousin relationship. The answers are out there and good proof is certainly possible. Once you know for sure that Mindy's mother was Lou Carnes, the census will be helpful in tracing earlier generations. Good luck, Linda in Georgia ----- Original Message ----- From: Carol Fletcher To: TX-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, June 24, 2005 5:18 PM Subject: Re: [TX-CEN] San Jacinto County, Texas I know Mindy is buried in the cemetary near Cleveland. I think there is a grave marker but not sure. She died of TB at the age of 23 I think. My dad was an only child, he had a sibling who was either stillborn or died in infancy. I had heard that Jeff Shaw was a step dad to Mindy but have never been able to verify it. Pete Shaw (grandson of Jeff) is a family friend that I am in email contact with and he says that there is no family relationship between the Stringers and the Shaws that they just grew up together. My dad passed away in 1991 so I can no longer ask him questions and I didn't get into geneology until after his death. But he always called Richard Shaw "Uncle Richard" and said the Pete (Richard's son) was his double cousin. I didn't question what he meant by that except that he was supposedly a cousin by two different means. I do know that my grandma Mindy was related to the Carnes family. There is land joint owned between us Stringers and the Carnes' so I know that is a known fact. It was inherited land passed from my Grandma Mindy to my dad then to my siblings and myself. I figure Mindy had at least one sibling who also inherited since the land was passed to the Stringers and the Carnes. I can't contact any of the Carnes family because when my Grandpa Lucius Stringer married Mindy her family didn't like it and the dislike has continued down through the years. My family, including my dad, always believed his mother's name was Mindy Lunn. It wasn't until I got to searching that I began to wonder because I couldn't find anything on Lunn but did on Shaw. Thank you so very much for helping me search. It really means alot to me to find out where my Grandma Mindy came from. Carol in Illinois (originally Arizona)

    3. Carol, I am going to the Clayton Library today, so I will check to see what we have on San Jacinto and Liberty counties. Liberty was were they where in 1870. I maybe able to locate some early marriages and burials. I am reasonably familiar with both areas, as I live just south of them, in Houston, Harris Co. TX, and have family in Cleveland and Evergreen. I believe that Linda is correct in her statement below. Millie and Mindy's mother was a Carnes. What I don't understand, is why they continued to all live next door to each other for over 40 years, if there was a falling out. Also, I think that Millie may have married a Enloe. ----- Original Message ----- From: Linda Murray<mailto:lhmurray@bellsouth.net> To: TX-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:TX-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, June 25, 2005 7:06 AM Subject: Re: [TX-CEN] San Jacinto County, Texas Carol, The answers you need may not be found in census records. 3. Carol: I am not sure what happened between 1870 and 1880 that caused a whole group of families to up and move from Tarkington Prairie Liberty County TX and relocate to Evergreen San Jacinto County TX, but that is what happened. It is not that the county lines changed, they moved, as both these places still exist today. The families are Carnes, Stringer, Bazzson, Whitmeyer, Enloe, and I am sure there are others, if I took the time to scan more pages of the two census. Now what I found at the library today. Montague Cemetery on FM 1725 about 3 miles north of county line in San Jacinto County. Millie Ann Enloe {believe this is Millie Lunn, sister to your Mindy} b.12.16.1885 d.09.25.1911 age 25 Barney B. Carnes { believe this is brother of your Louisa M. Carnes Lunn Shaw} b.12.26.1870 d.09.12.1932 age 61 Louisa M. Shaw {mother of Millie & Mindy} b. 1869 d. 1906 age 37 h. William J. Shaw William J. Shaw b. 1865 {1900 census shows he was b. Dec. 1873 } d. 1934 age 69 w. Louisa M. Shaw Leo Stringer {brother to your Lucion } b. 01.21.1895 d.02.08.1972 age 77 w. Mollie Stringer Sam Stringer {brother to your Lucion} b.1898 d.1956 age 58 Montgomery County TX marriage records W. J. Shaw m. Mrs. Luisa Lunn Jan. 02, 1890 Book 5 page 129 San Jacinto County TX marriage records George W. Stringer m. M. Moody {father of your Lucion} 01.27.1881 Book A page 344 Barnebas Carnes m. Effie Ellisor {brother of Louisa} 02.25.1892 Book B page 403 Lucion Stringer m. Mindie Lunn 03.10.1907 Book D page 77 I did not find a record of Mindy's death or burial. I went thru every thing we had for Liberty, San Jacinto, Polk (San Jacinto was formed from Polk), and Montgomery counties. I did not find a marriage record for Louisa Carnes and a Lunn. This is the only thing that is even close, and it could be it, as 1900 census shows Millie b. Dec. 1885, and Mindy b. Feb. 1888. San Jacinto Co. TX marriage records: J. L. Luman m. L. M. C. Carnes 02.27.1884 book B page 93 I have the 1870 to 1930 census saved, but the files are quite large, so not sure you would want me to send them to you.
