    3. Glenn, I just checked The Handy Book for Genealogists, and find that 1860 Tarrant County's census is totally missing, so that explains why nothing comes up in my searches for individuals indexed in 1860 Tarrant - and also why 1860 Tarrant is missing from the online indices and census images. Am sure there were probably Waters families there, but because the census is not there, I am not able to find any of them there. Again - sorry I wasn't able to help, Linda in Georgia Census/Cemetery Lookup Volunteer Genealogy is my ONLY business. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Glenn" <h2o7@bigpond.com> To: <TX-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, October 10, 2002 10:33 PM Subject: [TX-CEN] James WATERS, 1860, Tarrant CO > HI, > Could I have a lookup for James Waters, Tarrant Co, 1860. > > THank you > > Glenn > > > ==== TX-CENSUS-LOOKUP Mailing List ==== > To Unsub from regular mail mode, send the command "unsubscribe" to > XX-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L-request@rootsweb.com (Remove the XX and replace it with your state abbreviation ) > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > >

    3. Erlyne, Do you know anything else about this Steen fellow? There are several Isaac/Issac Steins in the index, but none have the right family members. There was no "I", no "IP", no "Porter" indexed with either spelling. If you know where he was born or in what county they may have lived in 1920, I will be happy to try again. 2. Wayne Jones
    3. I can't tell too much just looking at the images -- but to me it looks like someone "anglecized" the name -- taking his original French name and turning it into one that is easier for an American to pronounce. The family looks to be definitely french -- at least the husband and wife, judging from the birth information of them and their parents. Since the son John was born in Louisiana, which is/was a French stronghold, having been French posession in the 1800's, I would guess that the family came to Texas by way of Louisiana.
