    3. Good morning Listers! Would someone be so kind as to check the following for me please in the 1880 Census. John James BALSOM. Born Torquay, Devon, England. 1846. Sorry I don't know what County he is likely to be in or his Marital status (if any). I cannot locate him in UK in the 1881. 1891 or 1901 census - believe he may be in Texas. Very many thanks :). 1. Re: [TX-CEN] 1880 John James Balsom
    2. I find no Balsom in Texas after 1850 when searching the online database I use. I did a soundex search and it produced the same results. I checked BALSON for Texas -- nothing remotely like it. Soundex for Texas with England as birthplace -- nothing at all. BALSON (exact) in entire US with England as birthplace James BALSON in Malden, Middlesex Co, MA age 49. John BALSON A Soundex search didn't show anything that is readily recognizable (like Balsam or Balsum). Maybe someone with the indexed 1880 Census CD can find him. Sorry I couldn't. Anne

They have recently posted an All-Name Index to the 1880 US Federal Census. Since I was already doing searches in Texas I just put in John Balsom born in England in 1846 +/- 2 years and the result is above. If this isn't your John then you can go to FamilySearch.com and click on the 1880 Census link on the left side and search using last name only or other criteria. As of right now the Index is free. You can also do what I did and click on Household and then when at that screen you can check out the neighbors by clicking on the Next or Previous Household.
