    3. So - born in 1885, Chester Smith would be about age 15 in 1900. Would Mary have been an adult and head of household in order to qualify for the index, or are we looking for two children who would be living in one of the Smith households in 1900 Van Zandt County? The only Smith indexed in Van Zandt who was born in Kentucky was an Andy Smith, age 58, and single. There's a Chester Smith in Fannin County, born 1881, boarding with a Huff family, the owners of a saloon. Chester was working as a bartender, probably in Huff's establishment, and could possibly be the one you need, but no Mary Smith in the household. There's also a Chester Smith in Mollie Smith's household in Van Zandt with Frank McGuire, but not likely the Chester you are looking for: 1900 Van Zandt County, Texas - Justice Precinct 4 - June 20, 1900 - page 173 240 - Smith, Mollie, head; June 1844, age 55; widowed; IL TN IL; renting house Chester C. (Smith?), brother; May 1864, age 36; single; IL TN IL; farmer McGuire, Frank, son; Dec 1879, age 20; single; TX TX IL; RR Labor Trapp, Archie, son-in-law; Oct 1874; age 25; widowed; TX TX TX; day labor Eva, grdau; Jun 1893, age 6; TX TX TX Charlie, grson; Dec 1898, age 1; TX TX TX Good luck! ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, June 28, 2004 7:39 PM Subject: Re: [TX-CEN] 1900/Van Zandt/SMITH > Linda, > > Thank you for your reply. 3. LaNere, There are 88 Smiths indexed in 1900 VanZandt County, but no Chester. We might have better luck finding your folks if you could furnish some details that are absolutely imperative - especially necessary for finding anyone with a Smith surname. For instance, can you tell us please his race, year and place of birth. Where did he live before and after VanZandt County? Did he have children born in Texas, and if so, when? Linda in Georgia Reminder - Subject line should read Year/County/SURNAME - Thanks. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, June 28, 2004 4:50 PM Subject: [TX-CEN] 1900 Census VanZandt County Texas > I would appreciate a look-up for Chester Smith and Mary E.
