Hi John, Always change the subject line of the email to reflect what the search is for. (i.e. you asked for 1870 this time.) I changed it myself so archives would be correct. I guess this is the correct Joseph Mims. It is the only one listed in the U. S. for 1870. Maybe the enumerator got carried away with ditto marks. The listings above Joseph were born in TX. 1870 Brazoria Co., TX, Brazoria P.O., July 21, 1870, Pg 172 1547, 1547 Joseph Mims, 43, M, W, TX, farmer, Real Estate $4,500, Personal $2,500 Susan, 30, F, W, AL, keeping house Mary, 12, F, W, TX, at home Columbia, 10, F, W, TX, at home David, 8, M, W, TX Susan, 3/12, F, W, TX, born March There's very little 1890 available. I tried Joseph, but nothing was found for him. Need a look-up Martha Beaty/Baty and Mattie/Martha English on the Red River County 1870 census. This is one person, I'm just not sure of the name. Born 1856 in Texas. Might be single or married to Sam Mims. Parents birthplace might be GA. Race is mulatto or black. I haven't seen any records where she went between mulatto and white, but it is possible. Thanks for any help. Estella

Linda, thanks for the try. I've tried to locate the family in the 1900 census myself, but had no luck. I've been doing genealogy for just over a year and hoping someone with more experience and better resources could find something. I was told recently that sometimes in the transcription process the name gets misspelled, which I'm wondering if this is the case. If someone else wants to take a stab at a lookup or can offer any suggestions I'd sure appreciate it. Hi Linda, Thanks very much for the 1900 census lookup. Please check the 1870 Kaufman Co census for the same person. Your reply for the 1900 census was: 1900 Kaufman Co., TX, JP 4, South of T & P Railroad, June 12, 1900, ED 78, Sheet 6a 94, 97 Joseph A. Mims, boarder, W, M, May 1832, 68, Wd, AL GA SC, no occupation Residing in David Patton household. Good luck, Linda in Texas I assume there is no info available from the 1890 census and I have the 1880 data from the LDS site. Again, Thanks for your good work. John

Juanetta, If you will let us know that you've already tried, I won't be trying to send you all over the web. Now - I need to know more about your Samuel Armstrong. I have approximate age and place of birth, but can you tell me his race, his wife's name and the names of any known children? Especially helpful would be the name of the son born in Texas, and the year of his birth. There's a suspicious Sam Armstrong in 1880 Arkansas. Can I assume that you've already ruled out that one? My greatgranfather was John Munroe Armstrong. He was born in 1867. For the place of birth all I have is East Texas. Could be Sabine or Nacogdoches.
