I wouldn't be surprised if Maria was deceased by 1860, just don't know. Got the marriage record from the Gasconade County Court house in Hermann some years back, live only 20 miles from there. Also got her father's will and probate records from there too, had hopes of a listing of grands but nothing in that direction. Her family was Catholic and nothing at the local church, not even listing when married as were some of the other siblings. Seems a dead end every where I look. Do you know where to find passenger lists from Laharve, France to New Orleans? Maybe he came over with her family, haven't located those lists either. Thanks for your interest. P.S...for Linda in Texas............As I looked at this census data this morning, I found a really glaring error. Geez, I wish these darn census takers had been more accurate. Let this be a heads up to everyone on the list. The "Lee" listed under the John James household as a 24 year old son, was in actuality my great great Aunt Lee Nora James Hill. She first married a man much older than herself, he passed on, so then when she was 50 years old she married a man 25 years old! He married her for her money but she fooled him, she lived to be 102. And a pretty spry 102. But due to this error, I suspect Bertie Parker IS a grand daughter. Just goes to show we shouldn't base all our research on just the census notes. Hello All, I found 2 people by the name of Martha Beaty for the 1870 census in Red River County on Ancestry.com, but I don't have access to the records. One Martha was 5 years old born in 1865 and the other Martha was 14 years old. I think the Martha I'm looking for is the 14 year old but if someone could also look up the 5 year old so I could check out the household she is in. Would someone please look up the 1870 Red River County census for Martha Beaty born 1856 Texas, race could be black or mulatto. Thanks for any help Estella

Linda, I'm sorry I thought I was posting to the list before. Thank you, this is just the information I've been looking for. On the 1900 census it shows that one of James children is named Letha. Katharan, I've checked back to the info I have on his dad, and found it read 1900. I must have made a mistake copying the info. So sorry. I do thank you for trying. I will try later an earlier date in another TX county. Dortha, Sorry, but I can't find anything on a Rollis, Rollie, Rolly, R., York anywhere. What census is "1990 Soundex, Bosque ED 5 sheet 4 line 58? Is that supposed to be the 1930 one? Sharon, I think this may be an impossibility without knowing children's names or something. I wish we knew when Maria died. Did you check where the will was actually probated? There might be a mention of the childrens' names there. I have found a couple of things that might give food for thought, but that's about it. I checked the 1860 census for anyone born in Switzerland named Maria, Marie, M., Mary or Eliz* aged 27 thru 31 and came up with nothing, so am wondering if she could already be dead by 1860. If she were, the following might be a possibility. 1860 Pickaway, OH August Seriff, 36, Germany Alphena, 34, Germany John 5, OH (he is not listed on the 1870 census but is on 1880 as "son of wife" which means this was at least a 2nd marriage for each) Augustus, 2, OH Mary 1, OH I thought maybe Augustus and Mary could be Maria's children??????? 1870 Union Co., IL August Sharp, 49, Prussia Appolonia, 45, Biarland August 12, OH Mary 11, OH France 9, OH Emma 7, OH Philip 5, OH 1880 Union Co., IL August Scharf 56, Prussia Applonia 55, Beiarn John Beauscher?, 25, son of wife, OH August Scharf, Jr., 22, son, OH Mary 20, dau, OH Frank 18, son, OH Emma 17, dau, OH Phillip 15, son, OH All of the children show Beiarn for Mother's place of birth. However, census takers quite often just put the wife's birth place there whether the wife was that particular child's Mother or not. I found only one other possibility. 1860 Cuyahoga Co., OH Joseph Scharpf, 30, Hesse Darmstade (maybe his name was Joseph Augustus???) Mary 30, Hesse Darmstade Mary 6, OH Augustus 2, OH Wish I could find something more concrete, but no such luck.
