Hi Toni Not sure where to start; My Grandmother was Emma Esther Tuttle born, 188, Step Toe Butte, Washington Territory. Both her parents died 1895/7 and Emma and her seven brothers and sisters were shipped to Petaluma California to be raised be relatives. Emma Grandparents, Jeremiah Tuttle (from Dundas Co Can) and Sarah Esther Monk Tuttle (from Montpelier Vt) lived in Petaluma Ca. Jeremiah father also named Jeremiah was the third child of John Tuttle, John's wife name was Anna Bull, Anna was John first wife and they had seven children. John second wife was Fanny Brewster they had one child, John and Anna and Fanny lived in Goshen NY. the period 1788-1803. I have much more if you have some names I can see what I have. Barb, I have a George Tuttle in some info I've received (but not verified) and he was born about 1824. However, his name is given as George Washington Tuttle (not George B.). I'll give the info I have about this George in case it could help you with your search: George Washington Tuttle was s/o Nicholas W. Tuttle (b. abt. 1795 in GA) and Nancy Grose (b. 1795 in NY, NY). Other children were James M. (b. abt. 1821), Barbara (b. abt. 1822), Nicholas H. (b. abt. 1829), Sarah Jane (b. abt. 1831), Marion Pleasant (b. Sally died after 1850 as she is listed in USC 1850 as living in Plainfield IL at age 73. Sally and Benjamin had three children who survived to maturity and possibly three others based on census data. Horace Bentley b. 1803 in Portland Chautauqua NY, married Mary Lilley b. NY. Their children: Polly b 1830, Daniel b. 1833, and Eliza b. 1836. Daniel Bentley married Mary Smith b. 1836 in Michigan. Their children: Eliza, George, May, and John. May b. 1861 in Michigan married my FRank H. Tuttle son of George B. Tuttle. The Smith family lived primarily in Brownstown, Taylor, Trenton area. The Bentley family lived in Taylor Mich and also in Lake County Ohio. Mary Smith-Bentley died 1858 in Brownstown Mich. I have her death record, but cannot locat a grave. I assume she may have been buried on a family cemetary on a farm - probably now gone. Siblings and parents of George B. Tuttle are not known. Here is something I found in an old Terre Haute, Indiana, newspaper. Some of it was difficult to read so I hope I got all the names spelled correctly. My ancestor was Gershom and Pamelia's son, Chester. After the death of his wife, Charlotte, Chester remarried to Nancy Moore in Tippecanoe Co., IN. Would love to hear from other descendants of Chester and Nancy! Adina Watkins Dyer West Lafayette, IN _______________________________________________________ Terre Haute Tribune, June 22, 1947 GERSHOM TUTTLE “Three hundred and fifteen years ago the watchman on Beacon Hill above the little village that was Boston, saw on the far horizon what has been hoped for over many weeks. It was the ship Planter and as it landed amid the welcoming people, who were never far from starvation in those early days, there came ashore William TUTTLE and his wife, Elizabeth, first of the name to reach the shores of America. Of their children we know that a son Simon had a son who became known as Deacon Timothy and Timothy had among others, a son whom he named Gershom, and three following generations used the name. A great-grandson of Deacon Timothy, after serving in the War of the Revolution, came with his family to Vigo county. He died in 1818, aged 80 years. Of his son Gershom we know a great deal more for he in turn left a large family. Born in 1769, he married in 1788 Pamelia Strong CLARK who was born in 1770. To them were born Dennis, Chester, Edwin, Cynthia, Pamelia, Mary, Amanda, Clark and Ara. Some of these came to Vigo county, married here and with but few exceptions spent all their lives here. They had Walter and Mary. Amanda, born in 1809, married in 1825 to Henry MARKLE, and lived in Lafayette and Bloomington, where they rest in the city cemetery. They had John, Gershom, Amelia, Sarah and Kate. Clark Strong, born in 1811, married in 1832 to Harriet McSweaney, and had Hannah, Frank, who married Mary NAUFLE? An, and Aula. (Rockafellow) and children Frank 1856, Marian 1858, William 1860 and Charles 1862. July of 1863 has Wealthy and three sons in Lake Co., Ohio poorhouse and two days later leaving "we assume has gone back to Detroit, Mich" Where/when did George B die and what happened to WEalthy and children after that. Although the name "Matthews" is widely seen as the maiden name for Elizabeth, wife of William Tuttle, I think that it is WRONG. Lou Tuttle addressed this subject on this list last year.
