My Whiting Tuttle was the son of Henry Tuttle and Fidelia Smith, born in 1830 in Herkimer Co., NY. He died before 1870, about 1867-8, I think. He married Mercy towne, dau. of Abner Towne and Hannah Miller, born 1839, died 1918. She married Amos Potter about 1869. Children were: Mary or Margy, b. 1855, Iona, b. 1859 Isabelle, b. 1862, d. 1829 Council Bluffs, IA m. Sam Kelley Elisha, b. 1866, d. 1928, Harrison Co. IA m. Mary ?? There are 3-4 other Whitings but I don't know the connection yet. Do you know Whiting Tuttle? I',d appreciate any info you might like to share. Happy digging. Janet Branson

I am searching for any information concerning what happened to a Nathan TUTTLE who moved to Marion County, Iowa in the early-to-mid 1840's and apparently died before 1850 (or he moved away). He was from Ohio, county unknown, and before that from North Carolina. He was a widower -- his wife Rosanna FAIRCLUFF had died in Ohio in 1840. I speculate he was born about 1790-1800. Nathan and Rosanna had two known daughters: Martha Ann Tuttle m. William Jackson McClain Caroline Rosanna Tuttle m. John Slaughterback There was an unknown older daughter and an unknown only son, born about 1838. It is believed this son was a Charles Tuttle. There could have been other daughters. Both of the known daughters crossed the plains on the Oregon Trail and settled in Oregon. Martha was my gr-gr-grandmother. Thank you for any help. Nancy Shire
Hi list, I have always thought my Patrick TUTTLE-TUTHILL was b. 1813 - 1825 in Co. Clare but according to the 1930 Federal Census -- two of his children were still living & they both state their father was born in Northern Ireland. Is anyone doing research on TUTTLE-TUTHILLs in Northern Ireland??? This is an unusual surname & it would be of great help, for me, if I only knew what county in Northern Ireland I should start my research in. Thank you for any help or info you might be able to share with me on this. :) Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS)

According to "Tuttle and Tuthill Lines in America" by Alva Tuttle, Ara was a son of Clement. Alva references "History of Ashtabula County, Ohio, 1878", and lists his children as Mary, born July 20, 1813; Maria, born May 21, 1815; Asahel born June 4, 1817; Lucius, born October 11 1819; Uriel, born July 10, 1821; Lewis, born April 21, 1823; Martha, born September 2, 1825, Clement, born July 9, 1827; John, died at age 14, Denmark, IA; Jas H., born Jun 1833; Sarah, born 1835; Benj., born c 1837; Persis M., born c 1839. Alva cites the 1850 US Census for Ira's family. Farmer aged 62, Charry aged 62, Geo 32, Martha 21, Charlotte 20, Emery F. 1. A second reference "Further data collected by William H. Tuttle of Clockville, Madison Co.,N Y, local historian" lists the children as Bradford, died July 7,1810; Eben, September 23, 1812; Harriet N, November 30, 1814; George Virgil (is this the one you are interest in?), Marc 24, 1817; Harmon P., March 24, 1821; Charlotte J., March 3, 1830. Alva has a George B. born c 1824 in Ohio. In 1860 US Census, Chardon, Ohio; farmer 36; Wealthy A. 27, born NY; Frank H. 4; Marian L. 2, William, 3 months, all children born in Ohio. George B.'s parent isn't listed as they are when Alva knows who the father is. Don't think this will help much as it doesn't look like either Ara or Ira is the father. I have a great-grandmother name Ann Janette Tuttle (says Nettie on her gravestone). Information I have about her says she was born in Oakville, NY on 10 June 1839, daughter of Harmon and Catherine (Veltman) Tuttle. She married Augustus S. Holmes in West Winfield, NY on 23 March 1863. Found info on Ancestry.com for a Harmon Tuttle that says he was b. 25 March 1821 (would make him 18 when daughter was born) and d. 1 March 1889 and his parents were Ira Tuttle and Charry Mills. I don't know if this is my Harmon. I find a Harmon Tuttle in Federal Census in Hartwick, NY in 1840 with 1 male 50-60; 1 female 20-30, 1 male under 5 and 1 female under 5. He is in 1850 census under Otsego township. Does anyone have information on either Ann Janette or Harmon? Lucy
