    3. I would love to be able to help you but unfortunately I have not gone back this far.  Our John Arthur Tuthill my husband's grandfather) was born in Alverstoke, Gosport, Hants in 1881, his mother Mary Ann Taylor was born in Macclesfield but unfortunately there is a query about her dob so that is as far as I have got at present.  Unfortunately Tuthill is a name that can be pronounced in so many different ways.  I think our Tuthill was originally Tottle!   Happy hunting   Denise --- On Wed, 16/3/11, Maxine <genbug@olypen.com> wrote: From: Maxine <genbug@olypen.com> Subject: [TUTHILL] Henry (or John) TUTHILL To: TUTHILL@rootsweb.com Date: Wednesday, 16 March, 2011, 23:14 Hello,    I am searching for information on a Henry (or John) TUTHILL born 1580 in Saxlingham, Norfolk county, England.  He married Alice Rae GOOCH (1584-1650)13 nov 1605 in Tharston, Norfolk county, England.  His parents were John TUTHILL, Jr. (1548---) and Elizabeth HOALMER  (or WOOLMER)  (1552-1618).  I believe they had 5 children:  John (1607-1663),  William  (1609-1673), Henry, Jr. (1612-1650), Alice (1614---) and Elizabeth (1616---) Any help will be greatly appreciated. 3. Thanks for the reply, Denise. Yes, there are MANY spellings of the name. I was told it was originally TOTHILLS, derived from the artificial grave mounds called "tothills", which are found in several English counties. Good luck.
