Phil, Interesting, but I never realized that William Turner never made it to the US. I wonder what research records are available (if any) for Ireland during this time period. Ireland doesn't seem that it would have been a much safer place. I still have that huge gap jumping over to Samuel Turner, born 1812 SC. Oh, I have an idea! This would take some help from you others out there. Which Turners descending from William Turner/Mary McLemore were living in SC around 1810? Never thought about that approach before. I'm going to start trying to look at all the Turner families from the 1810 census to see which ones are compatible DNA. I have tried hard to gather as much as possible but could use a boost over this "brick wall". My grgrgrgrgrandmother was Mary Elizabeth Williams, a widow with two children (Malkijah & Teresa)who married Winslow Turner,Jr. BEF 1811 in Lincoln County, Missouri. They traveled to DeWitt's Colony abt.1828. Thank you to all who may have info. to share. Sheryl ----------- MY GREATGREATGREATGRANDFATHER: WILLIAMS. Malkijah Williams also spelled Malkyah and referred to as "Lige" Williams in some accounts arrived in the DeWitt Colony on 1 Aug 1830 as a single man and received title to a quarter sitio on 20 Nov 1831 according to colony land records. William's tract was on the west bank of the Lavaca River on the current border of Lavaca and Jackson counties and except for that of John Jones, the southernmost grant in the DeWitt Colony. The record of his marriage to Cynthia Ann Burns in 1837 is among the earliest marriage records in current JacksonCo archives (Malkyah Williams and Cynthis Ann Burns). Cynthia also written Cynthianne and "Synthia" in some records was born 7 July 1813 and was the daughter of Arthur Burns, one of the earliest settlers in the DeWitt Colony. The Williams lived in Lavaca Co and according to some Cynthia helped Evaline DeWitt design and make the "Come and Take It" flag of Gonzales. --- Source:1828 DeWitt Colony Biographies The Lista de los Havitantes de la Colonia de DeWitt en el Departmento de Texas 1828 SONS OF DEWITT COLONY TEXAS © 1997-2005, Wallace L. Please try many various misspellings to find all documents. http://www2.tsl.state.tx.us/trail/RepublicSearch.jsp I've come across a lot on this site for your ancestors while searching for mine. It says put in search criteria as "last name, first name" but it doesn't work that way. If you put in "Turner, Winslow" you are going to get all Turners regardless. Try putting in as the only search criteria "Winslow". Also, were you aware of military service in Louisiana by Winslow Turner and family? I found the records recently while searching LA records. I can't remember how I found those records. Wasn't it Winslow Turner Jr who died in the Runaway Scrape while trying to move his family to safety?
