Maybe someone can help me distinguish between two Richard P. Turners of Abama 1st Richard Presley Turner of Cleburne Co. Al. 2nd Richard "Preston" Turner who is registered on the Rolls I think on the Guion Miller Roll and gives place of residence as "Al" Could there possibly be an error and they are one and the same man Or Are they, indeed, 2 different men? I`ll be checking some sources but will certainly appreciate some input. Lori
Lori, Don't know if this helps or not. But, it appears that Richard Presley Turner of Cleburne Co., AL was 4 years old in 1870 Census of Cleburne Co., AL living in the household of L. B. (Little Berry) Turner and his wife Lida A. (said to be Lidia Luduska Tennison). He is listed in 1880 Census with same parents as as R. P. Turner, age 14. Little Berry Turner is supposedly the son of John M. Turner and Sarah Canks or Hanks Turner. John M. Turner said to be the state legislator from Benton Co., AL who died in 1837. This is where it gets confusing. In 1850 Census, Little Berry Turner and his twin are living in the household of a Nancy Turner in Randolph Co., AL. The names of part of the children living in the same household match up with those listed in the Bible said to be the one that belonged to John M. and Sarah Turner. Those living around Nancy in Randolph Co., AL suggests this is the correct woman but still can't explain her being listed as Nancy in this census. In 1860 and 1870 she appears to be listed correctly as Sarah. We have descendants of two other brothers of Little Berry Turner in our Turner DNA Project--James and William Thora Turner both listed in the same Bible. Are you descended from the Richard Presley Turner of Cleburne Co., AL or of the one listed as Richard Preston Turner on the Guion Miller Rolls? If you have a question about which one, you might be helped by having a male Turner of your group (if you know of one) who could join us in the project and see if your Turners match these others.
