Phil, Just when you need a library and a hurricane destroyed it!!! I know what I am looking for now, or think I do and trying to figure out how to get to the information? Any idea Gail? Philip Turner <tutor7798@yahoo.com> wrote: Lisa, We will have to take two approaches. The first is to identify all of the participants in the Turner DNA project who have ancestors who lived in South Carolina. The second step would be to go to RootsWeb or to the Census records and locate them. I already checked RootsWeb and I found that there are over 600 Turners who were born in SC between 1805 and 1815. The difficult job will to be to trace them back to their place of origin. Phil lisa chatelain wrote: Phil, Interesting, but I never realized that William Turner never made it to the US. I wonder what research records are available (if any) for Ireland during this time period. Ireland doesn't seem that it would have been a much safer place. I still have that huge gap jumping over to Samuel Turner, born 1812 SC. Oh, I have an idea! This would take some help from you others out there. Which Turners descending from William Turner/Mary McLemore were living in SC around 1810? Never thought about that approach before. I'm going to start trying to look at all the Turner families from the 1810 census to see which ones are compatible DNA. From another HOLT researcher: "From Craig Kisabeth email: ". . . I checked the 1850 Barbour Co., AL census and found Asa A. HOLT living in House #1033 with N.A. HOLT, 18 yr. old female born in GA; I.L.(Irby Lee) HOLT, 20 yr. old male born in GA; and C.A. HOLT 19 yr. old male born in GA, all in the same houesehold. Next door to them in House #1034 was a Wingate M. TURNER, 49 yr. old male born in GA; Laura C. TURNER, 42 yr. old female born in North Carolina; Charles A. TURNER, 11 yr. old male born in GA; and Jane M. HOLT(Jane Mariah, I think), 15 yr. old female born in GA. Craig Kisabeth " Wingate M(wish I knew what the "M" stood for!) TURNER(dob calculated as 1801 from "1850 Fed.Census, AL, Barbour co, house#1034.") is the Father-in-law of my 2nd GGF.... William HOLT m. Jane TURNER (dates unkn). According to the Census, TURNER was born in GA.... The HOLTs and TURNERs moved together from Henry/Hancock co,GA>Greene co, GA> Troup co, GA> Barbour co, AL. Prior to Henry/Hancock co, GA I can't find any records of the two families...possibly SC but William HOLT was born in Halifax co, VA. and came with his fathers' (James HOLT) family to Henry/Hancock co,GA. Wingate/Winguit M(for ?) TURNER could have gone by his middle name but I have no idea what the "M" stands for...or maybe he used W.M... I haven't seen any TURNER refs to any of my few TURNER names....These are the only TURNERs I have as a collateral family but can't even find them! Not a brick wall...more like a stone curb! Betty, If you know of any male Turners descended from Wingate/Winguit Turner who could do the DNA test, you might find a GROUP of Turners to which he belongs. With such a stone wall, this might be a potential chance to get around it. Gail Blancett Betty Faye Lawton wrote: > From another HOLT researcher: > "From Craig Kisabeth email: > > ". . .
