SOME TURNERS OF VIRGINIA by Louise Patton Richardson Turner has been generously transcribed by Vernon H. Drewa, Jr. and is available at the URL below. Louise referred to them as" the GOOCHLAND TURNERS" when we corresponded 20+ years ago , and did not feel there was a relationship with my Fairfax/Loudoun Turner/Ellzey line. There seems to be a third TURNER line that starts with Richard Turner b 1660 Lands End Eng. d 1742 in Caroline Co VA(wife Margaret) http://www.drewa.com/Some%20Turners%20of%20Virginia.htm With time , patience and the help of friend researchers we all try to sort out the various lines pjd 3/22/05 >

Dear pjd Although I cannot find the link there is a good chance that I have ancestors who were descended from Richaard Turner. Through the TurnerFamily DNA project I found a 100% match at the 12 marker level with a descendant of Richard. Whatever information you have on Richard and his descendants I would be grateful to receive. I have attached some background on my search (see below) for Lloyd Edmund Turner my grandfather - who I have very limited information on. Any help on Lloyd or Richard's descendants would be very helpful. Best wishes, Chris PS I am English and live in London - if there is anything I can do for you - please let me know. Info. on Lloyd Edmund Turner follows: I am trying to trace my grandfather Lloyd Edmund (or Edmond) Turner and thus his family line. It is likely Lloyd Edmund Turner's family came from the American South (NC/SC?). My grandmother said they did and I took a DNA test and ran it against a US centric database and came up with 7 hits or matches šC all Turners living in or having migrated from the American South. I had a 100% match with my DNA with one man who has traced his ancestry back through Georgia into Virginia to a Richard Turner who emigrated to the US from England in the late 1600¡¯s. I would love to find more about Lloyd and see where he ¡®fits¡¯ in to this family (if indeed he does). It would appear that Lloyd and/or his family moved to California where he was living in the Los Angeles area in the early 1920's. (He is listed in the LA City Directory for 1923 šC page 3069) but is not on the 1920 census for California šC although I understand that the online version of the 1920 census just lists the head of household and it may well be of course that Lloyd was too young to be a head of household at that time. I believe that there are about 450 Turner families living in LA County in 1920 though. His address is listed as 5760 Omaha Street, LA and he is listed as the householder. He is not listed in either the 1922 or 1924 directories. An address just down the street (5787) was given as Lloyd¡¯s address on my father¡¯s birth certificate as of Oct 1924. I thought his living on Omaha Street might be something to follow-up on šC and I had a very brief review of property records at the Vital Records office in Norwalk šC but without success šC but it may be worth doing a more exhaustive search to see if he owned or rented a property and this was recorded?? Another thought I had was that maybe property taxes were levied in 1923 and he might have had to pay them? I do not know how one would find this out. My great-grandparents (with my grandmother) šC Lewis John Geddes and Frances Mildred Geddes (both born and married in Canada) lived on the same street at that time (5579 Omaha šC in the 1924 City Directory) and I presume they were neighbours and met. Although I did look in the year books at my grandmother¡¯s High School (Hollywood) to see if Lloyd had gone to the same school as her šC but no success I am afraid. My grandmother (Eileen Geddes) told us Lloyd and she married at a friend¡¯s house in the LA area in 1923 or 1924. Having looked in both the LA and Orange County records offices šC I cannot find a record of the marriage. It may well be of course that they were not married. My grandmother was very young when she married šC she was born in January of 1906 and so we have assumed that Lloyd is likely to be born in the late 1890¡¯s or early 1900¡¯s šC but have no proof of this. We cannot find a birth certificate for him in California šC although there are one or two candidates from other parts of the US (including a 19 year old Lloyd Turner living in a boarding house in Charlotte, North Carolina from the 1920 US census). So we are just guessing then that Lloyd was born late 1890's or very early 1900's. From my father¡¯s birth certificate it lists Lloyd as a building contractor. I believe that if you were a contractor šC you needed a license šC this might be an avenue to pursue? Lloyd reputedly died in a car accident in the Los Angeles area in late 1923 or 1924 or maybe later šC but again we cannot find a death certificate for LA or Orange Counties for those years or a little later. My grandmother was pregnant with my father (he was born October 1924) when he allegedly died. >From: [email protected] >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: [TURNER] Re:TURNERS IN VIRGINIA >Date: Tue, 22 Mar 2005 19:20:58 -0600 > > SOME TURNERS OF VIRGINIA by Louise Patton Richardson Turner > has been generously transcribed by Vernon H. Chris, I have access through Proquest to the L.A. newspaper. I looked, several combinations of words, for mention of Lloyd Edmund Turner without luck. I even used the words "accident" and "turner", etc. to see what I could find but nothing came up. Of course, that doesn't mean absolutely that there is no mention in an article, I wouldn't give up on newspapers that easily, but that was the result of my search. Maybe a different newspaper from that era would include a write up about the accident. An event like that should have made the papers wherever it happened. Maybe available L.A. papers have obituary archives that you could inquire about. Most papers have an internet site through which you could contact them. Another thought - maybe the wreck took place away from L.A. Another place I tried was the World War I Registrations at Ancestry.com. If you were of the proper age to serve in the military in 1917/1918 then you had to register. His name did not appear there either but I believe there was a Lloyd Edward Turner among the names. Have you tried probate records? Cemetery records? Voting records? Look for a marriage record in the surrounding counties. My underage uncle and aunt "ran off" to a county in MS to marry because they were of legal age there, but their actual home was in a nearby county/parish in Louisiana. Have you tried the 1910 and 1900 censuses? Good luck, Pam Chris Turner <[email protected]> wrote: Dear pjd Although I cannot find the link there is a good chance that I have ancestors who were descended from Richaard Turner.
