According to census records, my GG grandfather, Elijah Turner (c1799-c1865), was born in South Carolina, as was his wife, Anne (Bennett) Turner, and their 5 children. They moved to Cocke County, Tennessee sometime after 1839 (the date their youngest child was born in SC) and before the 1850 Cocke County, TN, census was taken. I have not yet been able to trace this family any further back, however, I have found 1830 and 1840 census records for Spartanburg County, SC, for an Elijah Turner which shows the same number of family members with the same sex and ages as my Elijah Turner family.
