I cannot guarantee this will help but it might be useful. I have Watson and Harris families who left Marion Co, SC and Robeson Co, NC around 1820's and moved westward. Also have Waters, Watters and Walters, Ford, Franklin, Rawls, Lennon, Morris, Spring, McClendon, Womack, Chapman moving from same area westward. Most of them went from NC/SC into MS but some others could have stopped over in GA. There was a migration from those areas in SC/NC all the way into TX during time period 1820-1850 or so. Another note. For Jasper County, TX court house I did find a LOT of land transactions for an Isom Turner in the 1840's and I'm not sure who this man was. Could he have been actually an Isham? I don't know. Seems a close spelling of a name. Anyone have an Isom Turner who could have been making large land deals in 1840's TX? "Gail R. In going back ward to 1830 trying to locate Henry in census, I didn't turn him up but used the neighbors in 1840 and 1850 as markers to search for any Turners living in that area. The names I homed in on were Nathan Watson and Noel Waddle. I also found an Elisha Harris near some of them on 1840 so watched that name also. I am not trying to imply any connection with Elisha Harris, only as a possible indication of neighbors that might help me know if I had the correct Turners. In 1830 in Marion Co. I found the following Turners: p. 137 Isham Turner 1 M 20-30; 1 M 50-60; 1 F 15-20; 2 F 20-30; 1 F 50-60 near an Elisha Harris p. 141 Alexander Turner with 2 M U5; 1 M 20-30; 1 F U5; 1 F 20-30 p. 142 John Turner with 3 M U5; 1 M 30-40; 1 F U5; 1 F 5-10; 1 F 15-20 I would think that it would be helpful to consider Isham Turner 50-60 years old here as a potential relative of Henry Turner. We might have expected Henry Turner to be head of household in 1830 when is age would make him around 30 years old, but he isn't here. Of course, he might not have arrived in Marion Co. but I think it is a possibility that he could be that 20-30 year old male in the household of Isham Turner and that perhaps one of the two 20-30 year old females could be his wife Lucinda or even the female 15-20 years old since her age in 1850 suggests she would have been around 17 in 1830. His later census suggests he didn't have any children born before 1830. With a male named Isham living with him in 1850, that could also indicate he might have named a "son" after his father Isham. However, what is interesting to me is the the ages of the children listed in the household in 1850 are not listed in neat descending order. When I see that in census, I always consider the possibility all those children were not his but perhaps some other children he had taken in--nephews maybe? I haven't studied that family enough to know whether all the children listed for Henry and Lucinda on some of the Family Trees at Rootsweb are supportable or not--lots of kids! But, I certainly believe that Isham is someone that if I were looking for information on Henry would be a name I would want to check out. I don't see that any of the Rootsweb Family Trees list a father for Henry. I will suggest that you might want to consider finding a male Turner directly descended from your Thomas Dozier Turner who would join the Turner DNA Project and do the test. We have quite a growing number of lines documented who were in GA and SC. It will not tell you who Henry's father was but it may help you identify a "group" of Turners to which Henry may be related and it will certainly help you rule out those that you can not be related to. Sometimes ruling out lines is as valuable when working on such a common surname as Turner. I know that the list owner suggested that all things related to DNA be put on the Turner-DNA-L but unless everyone on this list is subscribed to that one, it is nothing more than the preacher preaching to the choir.
