Gail, I researched Mrs. Katherine Kerr Kendall's various books on Abstracts of Caswell County, N.C. trying to get the descendants of Henry Turner (1721-1809). I thought I sent you a listing of what I have done on Henry,Sr. Children of Henry Turner,Sr. and Graves are: James 1756 - 1835 John died 1830 (killed by slave) Williamson Co TN Henry Jr died before his estate was settled William THOMAS TURNER Elizabeth Franky Mildred Nancy Sarah Susannah Mary The above Thomas had the following children: Nathan EDMUND md Mary Ann Slade Mary JAMES C. md. Mary Bigelow Nancy T. Elizabeth Thomas Turner Does this sound familiar and is this the family you mentioned in above in the subject? I will be glad to send you what I have on this family. It is by no means complete but I have not had the time to work on it lately due to health problems but will get back to it after the holidays. I can send you the notes on all substancuating my research. I am trying to get my program in order so my daughter can take over when she gets time. She is working now but one day will have more time as the children get older. We lost our oldest daughter in June with a heart attack. B.-----------18 M------NC Theophilus-----------13 M------MO Thadeus---------------9 M------MO Mary M. Turner had 15 slaves on the 1850 Slave schedule. As has already been shown, Mary M. Turner married in 1854 to J. Cartheral and he apparently died or they separated before 1860. The ages of the children and places of birth in the 1850 Census suggests the family moved from NC to MO between 1832 and 1837. It is possible that the James C. Turner in 1840 Gasconade Co. MO is the correct James C. Turner but I have not proven that yet. The household is a reasonable fit to the children we know that were with Mary in 1850 plus the daughter Lucretia (born c 1825 per 1870 Census) who married in 1845. 1840 Census, Gasconade Co. MO James C. Turner 1 M U 5 1 M 5-10 2 M 10-15 1 M 30-40 1 F 15-20 2 F 30-40 (they have several slaves with them) I believe that the following James Turner in the 1830 Census of Caswell Co. NC may be the correct James Turner. 1830 Census, Caswell Co. NC image 37 James Turner 2 M U 5 [probably Thomas and James R.] 1 M 20-30 [probably James C.] 1 F U 5 [probably Lucretia] 1 F 20-30 [probably Mary Bigelow alias Pattillo] This household is enumerated between Brice Collins (listed by some researchers as the father of Leonidas Collins) and the household of what may be "Lucy" (name unclear but begins with an "L" and ends with a "y") Turner. They were enumerated near several Pleasants families. I am speculating at this point (and this would need to be proven) that this was Lucy Pleasants who married James Turner on 5 Aug 1793. I believe he is likely the James Turner usually referred to as "of Hico" on tax rolls and records. He is not James Turner, son of Henry Turner who died 1809 in Caswell Co. NC. Mary Bigelow Turner Carthell was still living in 1880 with her son Thad. S. Turner in Franklin Co. TX. She listed her age as 74 born in NC with her father appearing to be born in Connecticut (assuming the census taker used "Con" as the abbreviation) and mother born in NC. A person who submitted the transcription on the Will of Thomas Bigelow "alias Pattillo" written in 1873 in Caswell Co., NC stated that Thomas, Mary and Elizabeth were children of a Mr. Pattillo and Elizabeth ?. After the death of Mr. Pattillo, his widow, Elizabeth married second Roderick Bigelow. The three Pattillo children--Thomas, Mary and Elizabeth--took the step-father's name Bigelow. This seems to be born out by the fact that Mary's marriage bond listed her as Mary Bigelow rather than Pattillo.
