    3. Russell, If you are a direct male Turner descendant of Archibald Abraham Turner, would you consider joining in the Turner DNA Project to document his DNA signature. It might help the others who appear to be from that same large group of Turners in the area begin to see where the branches are splitting off. We have quite a large group of folks who are from the big group but it still isn't sure exactly how they are all fitting together. Just so many with that common name of James. If you haven't checked it out, go to the Turner DNA Project website at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~turnerdna/ Click on the word Results on the left of the screen. Look for a blue group near the bottom of the chart. Brenda's line is the first kit in the group beginning with Kit #31982 and the oldest ancestor listed as Admire b c1780 VA. We have recently gotten back what is called the last panel of markers on his results (markers 26-37) and he is showing the same characteristic mutations. I sent them to my webmaster to post with the last chart update but he missed putting them on. But, he is showing the same characteristic mutations in that last panel as the major kits we have that seem to be documented to the James married Mary Admire lines. He has a few other mutations that may be what I call "personal mutations" that have happened in generations more recently. But, it appears that we are beginning to be able to identify perhaps what might be called "tip splits" which eventually, with enough people testing, will help determine exactly which of the men these lines are branching off from. Since it is impossible to know exactly when the specific mutations took place, the more people testing from the same general group helps us begin to come up with what is the "modal haplotype" of the ancestor. I know this begins to sound like Greek and I am learning too so don't get put off. I would encourage you to consider joining us. You would need to do the Y-DNA37 marker test for it to really help. Let me know if you want more information. Otherwise, there is a "JOIN" link on the website also where you can order the kit. Gail R.
