Hello, Don ! I've been reading all the suggestions you have gotten & they are all good. I just want to emphasize that whatever you do, please please put in an index to the individuals. Without that, a book on a family is almost too much work to search. I seem to remember someone saying that Family Tree Maker 2006 has a "book" feature under "print reports" that will do the index almost automatically for you. And the book feature will put in your notes under each person they apply to plus the sources as footnotes. At our FHC we have a little machine that will put a "claw" binder on "book"s printed out by TreeMaker or Legacy or PAF. That is about as cheap as you gan get, I think. Have fun ! Spread it as far as you can -- libraries, county Historical or Genealogical Societies, all family members, the Family History Library in SLC, even contribute to the on-line RootsWeb USGenWeb county sites, as well as uploading to internet databases on RootsWeb or Ancestry. com or fammilysearch.org's Pedigree Resource File. That lead to my receiving a used computer from one of my daughters when she got a new one. That stopped the trips to the Library, which was twice a week. It lead to working on line every day. As I learned more I spent more and more time on the computer. All of that lead to a new larger computer which in turn resulted in more and more information. I am now on my third computer. Each with more memory than the last. Now my problem. What form have most people used to make this information available to other members of the family? Narrative-raw information etc.I do plain to put it in a book for the children and other members of the family. I guess I should also add that I use Family Tree Maker 2006. I compiled a book about the descendants of John William Turner several years ago, and have revised it about 5 times, adding more lines and further info. To add interest and an understanding of the history of the era each person lived, I added a few facts from Chronicle of America, Dorling Kindersley Publishing, Inc. and Chronicle of the World, Chronicle Communications Ltd. It kind of put all things in perspective. The only trouble I have had with my book is that originally I had an index, but when converting the MS Word file to PDF file to put on a CD to have it printed, the pages come out different. The page numbers I have listed in the index are often not the same as what are actually there. Any suggestions?
