Hi folks, I made a trip to the GSP in Philadelphia yesterday. Here are some of my findings. First, the GSP has moved to a new address, as of four years ago. They are now right across the street at: 1305 Locust St.; Philadelphia, PA 19170. Previously, they had had their offices in the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP) which is at 1300 Locust St. For some reason, they had to leave some of their materials behind, including the Rev. C.H.B. Turner collection. Furthermore, the HSP is closed for renovation and they will not reopen until August 17. So, there will be no opportunity to examine the Rev. C.H.B. Turner collection until then. Rev. C.H.B. (Charles Henry Black) Turner was the rector of the St. Peters Parish in Lewes, Delaware between 1900 and 1917. He was also a member of the GSP and collected Bible and other records of genealogical interest from Sussex and Kent Counties in Delaware, and form Somerset and Worcester Counties, Maryland. Apparently, the GSP published several monographs filled with his collected information. This must be where Pauline Turner Fake must have gotten her information on the family of William and Mary (McLemore) Turner. By the way, Rev. C.H.B. Turner was not descended from this family. I made a copy of his application for membership in the GSP and he gave as his oldest known ancestor a Daniel de Tourneur, born in Amiens, France in 1626. I plan to go back in August after the HSP reopens and see if I can find out about the descendants of William and Mary (McLemore) Turner. Stay tuned for the next exciting adventure!
