Bartholomew "Bartlay" TURNER mar. to: Mary JOHNSON children James b 18 Jul 1765, Charles b 11 Dec 1766, Reuben b 21 Jul 1768, Henry b 5 Apr 1770, John b 22 Jan 1773, Pleasants b 29 Nov 1774, and William b 6 Mar 1777. Henry was in Goochland County by 1731 as the following entry from Cavaliers and Pioneers, Volume III, p 407 shows: Patent Book 14 Henry Turner 300 acs. (N.L.) Goochland Co. beg. on Ganeto Cr. On Robert Woodson's Line ... ... 17 September 1731. Henry s will was written 14 February 1735 and proved 20 May 1735, so he died between those dates. He names the above chidren in his will and gives Anne's married name: Goochland County Virginia Wills and Deeds 1728-1736, Benjamin Weisiger, III p. 62 Will of Henry Turner of Goochland County To John Turner 200 acres, including plantation I live on, to my said son. To Anne Hodges, 100 acres where she lives, to her my said daughter. To James Turner, cow and calf to my said son. To Henry Turner, cow and calf to my said son. To Sarah Turner, feather bed, etc. worth £6, to my said daughter. To Barclay Turner, livestock and items to my said son. All the rest to my wife Mary Turner for widowhood, then equally to my children. Executors: wife and son John Dated 14 February 1735. Wit: James Johnson, Benjamin Watkins, James (T) Seague. On 17 and 18 June 1735 Welcome William Hodges gave land in Goochland County to his two brothers-in-law James and Henry: p. 64 Deed Welcome William Hodges, for love and affection to my brother-in-law James Turner 100 acres on north side of James River next to Col. John Sims, The Hanover Line, Treasurers run, Henry Turner. Wit: Robert Rogers, Benjamin Johnson, Isaac Johnson, Sarah Johnson. Signed Welcome William (W) Hodges. Recorded 17 June 1735. p. 65 Deed Welcome William Hodges, for love and affection to my brother-in-law Henry Turner 100 acres ... ... Dated 16 June 1735. When Sarah Turner married John Watkins, the security (bondsman) was her brother-in-law Welcome William Hodges. Mary's funeral was preached by Rev. Douglas and is therefore listed in his book. It refers to her as the mother of Bartlay Turner. The will and estate papers of Goochland lists a James Turner in 1734, book 2, p. 15, and a second Henry Turner 1760, book 8, page 93. This could be the son of Henry Turner above.
