In reference to the will of Edward Turner St Marys Co MA1772 I have searched MD for a Turney and keep turning up Turner surname. My cousin lives in that area and I sent her out to the local cemetery but all she found were Turner. Remember that in early documents the names get turned around. Often a Turney is listed as a Turner. I am looking for a Henry Turney who died 1836 in Smith Co Tennessee near where my Henry Turney lived. I at first thought maybe a Turner had changed his name to Turney, but now am sure he was always a Turner. According to pension records: Henry Turney born 1 January 1753 Nanjemoy Maryland, served in Rev War in North Carolina (suspect he went there as a young boy). He then is in Davidson County NC/TN where he married Martha Lancaster in 1788. 1789 he moves to Smith County Tennessee where in 1831 he marrys a Nancy Jones. He applies for pension in 1833, died in 1836, his widow applied for pension in 1838. The area in Maryland where I am looking for this Henry Turney is full of Murphy/Turner people. (more on some of those in another message). This area of MD I have found is covered by Durham Parish the early Anglican / Espiscopal Church established there in 1692. I understand the Charles County Community College has a lot of the info I need, they were closed for renovation when I was there and supposed to reopen fall of 1998. I have not since had time to check on this. I live in Michigan, so I guess I need to plan a trip next year to the area. In the Maryland Militia in the Revolutionary War - William Turney a member Captain Hezikiah Garner's Co in 1777, in Charles Co. MD. Henry Turney was already in North Carolina so I wonder if this is a Turney or a Turner. I was told there were Turney headstones in Nanjemoy Baptist Church Cemetery, but I think these are also Turner, not Turney. Do any of you Turner researchers for this area have a Turner who does not fit, who might be from the Turney family? I think I know the father of this Henry Turney born 1753 in Maryland. Think it might be a Johannes Thurny born 1725 Switzerland, or John Turney. This family lived in same place in Switzerland, same time as mine. I have ship ST ANDREW 1750 arrival Philadelphia, PA with a Johannes Turny and a Peter Balsam. (this family in Switzerland - Johannes had a sister married to Peter Balsel). Also have Johannes Tourne and Barbara had a daughter 1757 in Frederick Maryland. John Turney of Frederick Co MD naturilized 1761. Am I in the right ballpark? Any documents which say Turner but might be this Turney family? Thank you for the help. Mary
