I am interested in any information anyone has on people with the surname Tarner. My family and I have done lots of work tracing our family tree and have found that the vast majority of the Tarners in the USA today are all related to one another in one way or another, but there are still a few out there whom we cannot fit into our family tree. Family lore has it that "our Tarners" were "Pennsylvania Dutch" or German. We think perhaps our ancestor John b. 1782 may have been born in Germany or possibly England and emigrated to this country at a young age. There are Tarners in Germany and in England. We also have discovered that, for some reason, the name Turner in this country gets changed to Tarner in certain places in eastern Europe. In the last year or two I have searched for websites in which the name Tarner appears and have found that the names Tina Turner and Ted Turner both show up in news releases in countries such as Poland, etc., as Tina Tarner and Ted Tarner. I'm wondering if whatever linguistic mystery causes that to happen may also have caused my european Tarner ancestors to become Turners when they hit this English-speaking country. Can anyone give me any input on that theory? All of my Tarner relatives descend from a John Tarner who was born in 1782 (not sure if here or in Europe somewhere), married a woman whose given name was Nancy, and who, according to his will, owned property in Franklin County, PA, in the early 1800s. Their children were: Jacob Henry (my 2nd great grandfather) b. 10/Oct/1805, John b. 1808, Elizabeth and Nancy each b. bet. 1808 and 1814, William M. b. 20/Mar/1815, PA, Lidia b. 1818, Molly b. 19/Apr/1820, and Samuel b. 25/Mar/1924. My name is Sandra Louise (Tarner) Wagner, b. 29/Oct/1942 in Los Angeles, CA, the oldest of their 4 children. My brothers are Mark Haworth, Brian Lee and Brent Oliver, all born in Los Angeles, CA. I also have LOTS of information on the siblings of my grandfather, great grandfather and 2nd great grandfather. I would be happy to share that information with anyone who is interested and would love to have any additional information you might be able to give me to fill some of the gaps in the larger Tarner Family Tree. Looking forward to hearing from you.
