She was born in 1911 to the TURNER family of Scioto County, Ohio. This TURNER family is fairly well documented because many people in it were very interested in genealogy, even long before it was popular. I would say that your Mildred Grace TURNER is a descendant of one of the lines that I just don't have documentation on. The TURNER family is descended from William GODWIN TURNER who was born William GODWIN in Derbyshire, England. He was a deserter from the British Army (details are confusing and contradictory), he came to America somehow from Ireland and added the name TURNER to keep from bringing shame to his family. He had a large family but only two sons, Joseph and Levi. Both of them had a wide list of descendants. I have quite a bit of information on them, but, of course, it's not totally complete. Joseph only had two sons, Martin Slocum TURNER and William TURNER. Levi had four sons; Warren, John Godwin, George F., Joseph Rufus. Since your grandmother was born in 1889, she would have had to have been the child of one of them. They are the only ones in the family of the right age to be her father. Try checking Scioto County, Ohio census for 1900 and see if you can track her down. She would have been a young child then. I really don't believe in coincidences when it comes to highly unusual names like this. Sue
