Listers: I am looking for the maiden name of Mary Lurannah TURNER. According to my information, she was born abt. 1778 in Lincoln Co., GA and was married to James TURNER who was born 1781 in Wilkes Co., GA. He was in Hancock Co., GA on 24 Apr. 1802 and listed in Capt. Avant's Dist. A deed dated 27 Nov. 1804 indicates he had 100 acres in Jasper Co., GA. He was on that tax digest through 1807 and had participated in the 1805 Land Lottery. Their son, James Peyton TURNER, was born in Jasper County on 14 Oct. 1821. In 1834, the family moved to Stewart Co., GA. The Estate of James TURNER was probated in Stewart County on Nov. 23, 1840. Administrators were John M. TURNER, James THORNTON, and Lurannah TURNER. Mary TURNER was listed as head of the household in the 1840 Stewart County Census. In the Stewart County Census of 1850, (Mary) Lurany was shown in the household of her daughter, Elizabeth (TURNER) Reynolds, and was 72 years old. Her will had been drawn up in 1841, was witnessed by her son, James P. (Peyton) TURNER and was probated in Stewart County on Mar. 1, 1858. The administrator was Reddin G. WILLIAMS. The parents of Reddin G. WILLIAMS lived next door to James Peyton TURNER in the 1850 Stewart County Census. It could be that her maiden name was PEYTON or WILLIAMS. Can anyone help with this? Thank you for your time. Patsy Poppell
