Hello Philip and all on the list: I will briefly quote Leyburns' classic "The Scotch Irish" about James Patton. "An enterprising agent, James Patton served both Beverley and Borden in their effort to attract colonists. A native of Ireland and "bred at sea" Patton served in the royal Navy. He later became owner of a ship of his own, carrying on trade between Britian and the Rappahannock River. He is said to have crossed the Atlantic 25 times, carrying abroad cargoes of peltries and tobacco, and returning WITH ULSTERMAN." Many Scots-Irish who came with James Patton settled in Virginia. There were some Scots-Irish Turners who settled in North Carolina and gave the land for UNC. I believe this family may have come with the Pattons. Regards, Vesta
