The following notes comes from Tattnall County, GA Found in courthouse records. James Turner m. Anne McCleland on Mary 20, 1823 Drucilla Turner was found incompetent on Dec. 23, 1943 at age 72 and her guardian appointed was E.E. Banks. Samuel Turner married Sara Rogers on July 16, 1866. Samuel died before April 2, 1889, leaving a wife Sarah Turner and give minor children (names not given), Estate showed an interest in a sugar mill, plus other things. Estate valued at $239.50 In 1810 - James Turner was a juror June 5, 1810 - Andrew Turner was a juror June 10, 11827, James Turner, Sen. for $800 sold land to Benjamin Alexander "All that tract or parcel of land situated laying and being in the said county of Tattnall and State aforesaid (GA), but in the county of Montgomery at the time of Survey. On the Ohoopee River, containing one thousand acres, except so much as falls thereof as fall within the lines of the river land bounded west by the Ohoopee River and on all other sides by vacant land at the time of the survey." It appears the survey was done in 1820. Witness is Wm. Alexander. In March 1825, Abner Davis from the county of Jones sold land to James Turner, Sen. of Tattnall for 180 dollars , a parcel of land lyuing in teh county of Tattnall on the big Ohoopie River, containing 1000 acres, land surveyed for Vince in May 1820. Witnesses were Wm. Northern (?) and DAvid Turner July 20, 11831, James Turner Sr. of Tattnall and Benjamin Alexander in consideration of 30 dollars sold to Benjamin land on the waters of Ohoopee River containing 285 acres, bounded by David E. Jones, vacant land and Turner land, granted to james Turner Sr. June 20, 1831, Also another piece of property on Mill branch containing 200 acres, dated 1822, land next to 850 acres granted to James Turner Sr in 1822. Witnesses were David Turner and Shadrack Hancock. In a book A History of Tattnall County, 1801-1865 by John Rabun, Jr. the following was noted "James Turner headed an early first family in Tattnall County." In Bulloch County, GA Book A amd 1A, p. 76-77, I found these purchasers at an estate sale. Bisha Turner and Andrew Turner were purchasers. 1806/1807 In Glynn County, GA courthouse - quickly paging through the Minutes Book, I found this note Minutes A Jan. 1828, p. 32 Benjamin Turner has died and Henry Turner is one of his heirs. later on p. 39, was a note that Maria Turner was a minor, March 1829 but did not mention Benjamin in this note or other names.. Didn't find as much material on Turners as I had hoped in Glynn (Brunswick, GA) or Tattnall County which are the two courthouses along with Camden County that I visited on this quick trip.
